To say Harri is synonymous with Glasgow’s ever vibrant house scene would be akin to suggesting bears relieve themselves in woodland areas. His record breaking 20 year residency alongside Domenic Cappello is the bedrock of the local house music landscape and he has unarguably been one of the main inspirations for every generation of Glasgow DJs since he 1st appeared in the Subbie booth in the mid 80s.

Here  we have been blessed with Harri's saucy Subculture activity recorded by David Attenborough’s sound crew ahead of John Talbot’s appearance back in July. This will be more than enough to get you in the mood for this Saturdays's resident session and indeed any Subculture event.

Rob Booth steps up in Hour 1 with a mix celebrating 2 years of the excellent Houndstooth record label, where he heads up A & R and he also runs the well respected Electronic explorations podcast. Another Falty DL Solid Steel intro starts the show and Rob had this to say about his mix;
“I wanted to present the mix in two parts, the Solid Steel way. The 1st half showcases repertoire primarily from the 1st eighteen months, no better way than starting with our inaugural record, the Present Tense 12” by Call Super, such an exciting artist culminating with his recent critically acclaimed debut album. Of course I also had to include a few tracks from the Soul Music LP, Paul Woolford’s Special Request moniker, especially the Hackney Parrot VIP, coupled with the polished jungle/techno experimentalism of Akkord and the 160bpm mosaic of Throwing Snow.
As the mix enters the 2nd half the emphasis moves to our latest signings, Berlin based Marquis Hawkes, Norwegian duo Soft as Snow and LA duo 18+, who’ve kept us busy this past year with the mix concluding with Jassy Graz on vocals, a personal favourite, was so good to see Ross and Jassy invited to Maida Vale LIVE for Radio 1. I can’t stress enough the privilege of being on SS, I’ve been archiving these shows for so long now”

A fabric Blog feature on the Bristolian drum & bass behemoth that is DJ Die has been a long time coming. A true individual who stands tall in the leagues of electronic music with twenty years in the game, this Friday's show (21st August) won't be the first time the legendary Full Cycle associated producer has graced our Farringdon haunt, not by a long shot. But for some reason it's taken us this long to get him to finally contribute a mix to our ongoing series.

"It's a jungle one," Die explained when his mix landed in our inbox yesterday morning; "going back to some of the first music I've ever heard that I'd say was jungle or jungle techno". Clearly, the task of actually deciding how you want to sonically outline your sound by way of 60-minute mix can be a little tricky when your career spans a hefty two decades (and then some). But especially so when the kind of musical journey you've taken has itself experienced a number of different cycles and shifts. The simple fact of the matter is, right now, DJ Die is in a different place than before…

"I guess I would like to state that this a personal history mix and does not fully represent where I'm at now as a DJ and artist,” the genre spanning Gutterfunk label boss offers by way of an explanation. “It is however a huge part of the journey of how I got here.”

"My favorite set that we played this year at Burning Man was at Robot Heart. It was probably the only set that I really prepared for with Walshy Fire.

I'll be honest I was a lil nervous because I really wanted to make it run with energy for the full two hours and our typical audience isn't that used to a classic dub and reggae set. Myself and the whole RH crew wanted to create something really special for a sunset party and keep it true to the theme but to still feel like a Robot Heart set. The Robot Heart crew had told me that they wanted and entire set that sounded like "Major Lazer - Get Free" and I had to think hard about it. To keep the vibe going for two hours and for that record to be the climax was a challenge but I realized if you stick to your guns for the whole party and steer the audience in a direction and keep them with you, then anything is possible.  I hope you love it.. It's perfect for a party on a Sunday afternoon and represents a different side of Major Lazer"

Recorded on the anniversary of JFK's assassination and 21 years after their historic '92 New Year mix on Kiss 100 FM, Coldcut meets The Orb inna Uptown Youth House for the Return Trip. Matt Black and Jonathan More alongside studio accomplice Dor Wand got suitably enhanced with Dr LX Paterson and Youth for a multi-player late night jam session lasting over 3 hours. They then entrusted the multitracks of the set to DJ Food who heroically edited, condensed and massaged the sprawling swamp of sound into a tight - but also loose - 2 hour Solid Steel session.

Swimming through the mix are Lee Perry, Killing Joke, Sun Ra, William Burroughs, Teebs, Ry Cooder, Actress, Prince Jammy, Iggy Pop, Monty Python, Hank Williams and Hal 9000. Alongside unreleased dubs from the players themselves, remixes and versions of tunes old and new, the complete track listing for this marathon set may never be fullly disclosed. It's 2 hours, 10 minutes of sonic secrets to melt your mind, probably best listened to in headphones late at night with all suitable facilities for the full effect. Enjoy this trip.
