This is Third in a series of Poems That Jo Richter has so Generously let me use. Anyone that has ever tried to write lyrics for a song, knows that good lyrics are hard to come by.  When i first read jo's poems, it was and is a cathartic experience. I hope i made a good song out of this GREAT Poem..

OLD SONG

Met the girl that Dürer drew
Spoke in dreams she did to you
Spoke of morphic co-creation
But, alas, she's no relation
Of the mage that has no clue

Took a girl to a ball on the moon
Where Milton's soul served on a dune
Had some bourbon, died of fear
Prophets wailed but dear queen Lear
Had no mercy on the loon

Venus painted on her bed
Sipped from grails of liquid lead
Do you believe, she asked, in rest
Or restauration, no man's quest
Will shroud the beauty of the dead

Was addressed on Stromboli
By a girl with eyes to see
Colours flared and clouds dispersed
On gilded shields for, oh, she nursed
Too many snakes to set one free

Found an ancient photograph
Of a girl engulfed in love
That smelled the rain about to fall
On pastures vain, she'd charmed some shawl
To conceal her just enough

Travelled to the promised land
Where the knotted throngs disband
Love's ancient goddess held a rally
In some lone deserted alley
On a rostrum made of sand

Do you know a place to be
A chalk-cast fresco asked of me
My wings are small, I cannot fly
And all my quiver has run dry
For Ovidus is exiled to Romany

Take a walk in the forest on a moonlit night,
And you'll find trees shimmering in the moon's soft light.
Just watch closely,
For sometimes, the trees themselves emit a glow.
You simply hadn't noticed,
Soon, you too will start to shine.

A curious little ditty… tail-end of a jam, with me singing and playing acoustic guitar, Charlie Villiers on electric, and Leon Carter adding a little smattering of drums and backing vocals. I added the bass afterwards, and resisted the temptation to add anything else!

…although… if I had some bongos…!!!

I'm a keyboardist with a love for layering sounds to create ambient, ethereal atmospheres and composing simple piano pieces to embellish. I love all genres of music, and find myself composing different types depending on my mood of the day.

I’ve never had formal training. As a teen, my parents wouldn’t let a piano in our house in Egypt, so I studied piece-meal at friends’ homes. When I got to college, I learned by going to university piano practice rooms. In my 40’s, I met my birth-mom who turned out to be a child prodigy, winning a Van Cliburn competition by playing Rachmaninoff at age 11. Most of what I play today, I learned from the techniques she taught me. 

I’m an American who has lived abroad for a good part of my life in Egypt, Turkey, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Taiwan, and now back to Texas.
