This is another song with which I have used multiple tracks to create a "duet with myself". The song bears a 1920 copyright and first publishing attributes the lyrics to Malvin Schonberger and the music to John Schonberger.  Paul Whiteman's version was an eleven-week No. 1 hit in the United States, which stayed 20 weeks in the charts, and sold in excess of two million copies.

This is my simple, no frills recording of this popular tune composed in 1930 by Sam H. Stept with lyrics by Sidney Clare The lyrics are an admonishment between parting lovers, where the singer asks the other to either speak nicely of her, or not at all.

My goal for this album was to arrange standard traditional hymns in an eclectic fashion using a number of musical genres including gospel, classical, jazz and pop formats.  It is my desire that most listeners will be able to identify with one or more of the musical styles and approaches utilized in these arrangements.

As I was creating this arrangement of "I'll Fly Away", I kept thinking of the magnificence of birds in flight.  As a wildlife photographer, I have attempted to capture the beauty of these creatures as they flew in front of my camera.  I have created a video entitled "Come Fly with Me" which can be see at:

This wonderful classic standard by George & Ira Gershwin is an arrangement for Concertina and Piano. A soft midi bass was added to provide additional depth.

Embraceable You

Although this beautiful song was popularized by Elvis Presley in the '60's, it was composed long before that in 1926.  Written by Roy Turk and Lou Handman, the song reached the top twenty on the Billboard's Pop Singles chart in 1950.                                                                  I have included the original "verse" or introduction to the song in my recording.  Other than the original recording by the Henry Burr Orchestra in 1927, I have been unable to find other recordings that include the verse.  It is a melodic introduction that compliments the song beautifully. 

Are You Lonesome Tonight

I wanted to add my two cents worth to this wonderful jazz standard with the help of Mr. Sunnybass on acoustic bass. Recorded with a Yamaha Digital Piano P-525 with a midi connection in to Logic Pro X.

Out of Nowhere

This song, sometimes called "Old Folks at Home" was written by Stephen Foster in 1851. Swanee is river in Florida which empties into the Gulf of Mexico.  It is a wild blackwater river about 246 miles long.  It is the namesake of this song and also Swanee (1919) by George Gershwin.

"Way Down Upon the Swanee River" (Anglo Concertina)

Written in 1940 by Irving Berlin, this is the world's best -selling single music recording with estimated sales in excess of 50 million copies worldwide.  The Anglo Concertina provides a very pleasing and in some ways haunting timbre to the beautiful song.

White Christmas (Anglo Concertina)

As we prepare for the New Year 2025, this beautiful song seems very appropriate.  It is based on a traditional African-American spiritual by A. L. Hatter, thought to be the composer. This is a song of comfort which is based on Psalm 23 and has these words as the refrain: 
"There will be no sorrow there...
We will meet our loved ones there...
We shall meet our Savior there...
He will wipe away ev'ry tear..."
One of the best known and loved arrangements is by Moses Hogan for a choral setting.  I have used the Hogan arrangement as a template for my own piano solo arrangement.

"We Shall Walk through the Valley in Peace"

Sweet Lorraine is a popular song from 1928 and has become a jazz standard. The song was Nat King Cole's first hit.  There is also a film by that name which is released in 1987. The concertina adds a new sound dimension to this great old tune.

I composed this song which is based on Genesis 9 scripture in which the rainbow symbolizes God's mercy and the covenant He made with Noah (representing mankind) not to destroy the world in such a way again. Credit to Dorsey Tippett, the vocalist on this track.

“Has Anybody Seen My Gal?”

I have been enthralled with Bossa Nova music for many years, especially the songs composed by Antonio Carlos Jobim. My favorite composition by Jobim is "The Girl From Ipanema".  As a pianist I love to play with rhythm instrument accompaniment but for this recording I did not have accompaniment available.  Fortunately, a great French guitarist, Martin Gioani gave me permission to use a track from his jazz ensemble. Because of the beauty of the Ipanema beaches, I added a video track to capture the mood and ambiance of the song.
