This is the second part of a Jazz-Folk (Folk-Jazz?) piece called: The Waking Call. The spirit of Spring speaks through this mysterious music. The band plays flute, classical guitar, bass and drums.

Mystic Spring

An original jazz composition in five-four time. This excerpt fades-in to the last half of the track. The trick in working with odd timings in music is to just follow the natural rhythm, melody and musicality of the piece. In other words: Don't analyse... FEEL. But also be careful and make sure you have a good theme so that you are not just using the effect of an odd rhythm.

Perpetual Hands

'Moorish Melody' is an original composition for a folk-jazz type band. 'Moorish' refers loosely and poetically to the Moors - an arabic and north African group of peoples who came into Spain during the medieval period... The various melodic strands were worked out on the guitar and the rest added as the piece was being composed... I also play drum kit so found the drum parts particularly interesting to invent...

Moorish Melody

Most of the themes that develop through composition first come as a little seed: an opening melody maybe. I could be anywhere: In the kitchen, out walking either in a town or in nature. It's fascinating how it comes and what kind of characteristics develop as it unfolds...  I never know and have to find out... discover...

An Afterthought

The final little instrumental in a larger work called 'Crossroads'. Sometimes when you come to the end of a phase of work a little (but significant!) afterthought slips in... This is an interesting thing! See if it works for you...

Crossroads

A composition for string orchestra - a genre I have always liked since my early days of composition when all I had was a four-track cassette tape machine and a SIEL Orchestra 2 synthesiser with quite crude but sometimes evocative sounds... This demo plays the first half. If you are good string orchestra or a film maker interested in good theme music than we may be able to work together!
