If asked to name a dance music Mecca, Velikiy Novgorod in Russia might not the first place you'd think of, but it's the home of Stogov, who here serves up a very fine four-tracker that defies easy categorisation, with an essentially deep house framework augmented by elements of disco, jazz and Balearica. If you're looking for tracks that'll instantly fill the floor down your local Ritzy's or Cinderella's you'll come away disappointed, but if you've got a club full of musically clued-up "proper 'eads" to satisfy then step right on in because the four cuts here should keep 'em grooving along nicely!

Miles Away Records are proud to introduce a brand-new, fresh out the bag, never before released piece of music to their catalogue. In September 2024, Rob J Madin sent Miles Away a SoundCloud link featuring a collection of instrumental covers he had created. Among these were reinterpretations of tracks by Ponderosa Twins, Michael Miglio, and Rupa. Immediately drawn in, Miles Away loved both the musical approach to these covers and the fact he tastefully selected these tracks to cover. With some additional original compositions in a similar style, the result is ‘MONSTRO’, six instrumental slabs of jazz-funk heat. Produced primarily in Rob's attic studio in Sheffield. Rob showcases his talents on guitar, bass, keys, and percussion, with each track built around iconic drum samples.

Listeners can expect spacey synths, silky electric pianos, and irresistible hooks. Think BADBADNOTGOOD meets Mildlife with a side plate of Herbie Hancock. From the kick-your-door-down energy of ‘Callisto Disco’ to the slow-burning allure of ‘Heartacher’ and optimistic sunny day feel of ‘Cherryade’ to the fully grown earworm synth lines of ‘Bouquet Garni’. In addition to the four original songs, the collection features two cover versions from that initial SoundCloud link: Michael Miglio's ‘Never Gonna Let You Go’ and Rupa's ‘Ayee Morshume Be-Reham Duniya’. Both are rare early-80s gems, wonderfully reimagined by Madin.

Reflecting on the release, Rob shared: "I’ve been obsessed with the sounds of 70s jazz-funk since discovering Herbie Hancock’s 'Head Hunters' album as a teenager. I love that it seems to be having a resurgence of popularity through bands like Surprise Chef and BadBadNotGood, as well as some great reissues from labels like Miles Away. This EP is a nod to both the old and the new."

DJ Luoto is a Finnish vinyl only DJ who specializes in soulful house music in almost every subgenre and era of house. 

His guest mix is mostly 2020’s house/deep house with soul, energy, groove and some characteristics of different subgenres. 

You can expect soul warming pianos and synths with strong bass lines from disco inspired grooves to more deep house vibed lines, and of course, some soulful vocals and shorter vocal samples, one of the key ingredients in his selection.

What first sparked his love for house music happened around 7 years ago when he was inspired by Moodymann, Kerri Chandler and disco house icons. A few years after finding the genre record collecting started in 2021 mostly purchasing 90’s and 00’s house classic records. Now 4 years and almost 1000 records later he's still constantly searching for new gems across multiple genres.

Luoto plays actively in bars, working his way into the scene and clubs of his native country. 2024 was an active year playing over 50 gigs, mostly all night in bars and private events, but passion to grow as a DJ drives him to work hard towards bigger events and venues.
