Claptone Collaborates With Alt / Electronic Indie Duo APRE On Anthemic Single ‘My Night’

Just turn on ‘My Night’ and - bam - you'll be hit by a confetti-cannon of fun. As Claptone puts it: “If I had a surfboard this is one [track] I’d instinctively develop a desire to catch a wave to. It’s one of those that you instantly wanna listen to again after it ends and again after it ends and so on. I really love it with all of my heart.” “My Night” is co-produced with the almighty Stuart Price and has everything a proper hit requires, it’s sticky like superglue, and only slightly less addictive than a Netflix binge. 

It’s no wonder Claptone is 'really excited about working on this one with extremely talented UK Indie Pop duo APRE contributing their energetic vocals. If one can believe their bio - and I always do - they are inspired by the socially conscious observational lyricism as alternative indie. Add the smell of early summer, a pinch of French house and Claptone of course and you got ‘My Night’.

Setting the scene perfectly APRE and Claptone shout out to all those who’ve had a night out ruined by a close friend or loved one, who they ultimately feel responsible for. Invoking memories of messy nights and bleary mornings.

‘I was thinking about the theme of the song it brought me back to a night out I had in a club in Manchester that went so very wrong. I decided I wanted this song to be for all those people who were trying to have a good night out, which was then completely ruined by their friend or partner.’ –

‘My Night’ is simultaneously released with the cult movie inspired official video. Think 80s styling with a heavy dose of feelgood nostalgia throughout. The video follows two teenagers finding a secret underground dance floor and a place where they can show off their BMX skills. Directed by Keith Musil who has previously worked with Fox, Universal, Interscope, Warner Bros, Vice and GQ TV amongst many others.

This new release follows original singles Golden’ and ‘Zero’ and freshly released remixes on Storm Queen’s ‘For A Fool’ and Trans-X ‘Living On Video’ as well as reworks for pop superstars Ava Max, Dua Lipa, Michael Kiwanuka and Mark Ronson. 

Even not being able to tour has not slowed him down, continuing his worldwide visibility, he has now performed on over 50+ live streamed sets across 2020/21, with a staggering total of 63 Million combined views on YouTube. There are also plans ahead to return the most famous club in the world Pacha Ibiza with his now internationally renowned show ‘The Masquerade’, signifying that this year there is still much, much more to come.

So, this happened. Disco re-editor Pete Le Freq has teamed up with Freak Power main man Ashley Slater to unleash dancefloor demolition in the form of their first collaboration FIVE SIX SEVEN EIGHT.

Mannix keeps his strong 2021 run going collaborating with VillaLife on a very tasty rework of Junior's 1982 international hit Mama Used To Say which was a top 10 hit on both sides of the Atlantic. Drafting in the crazy talents of Andre Espeut on vocals and DJ Meme on remix duties it's a superb rework combining the talents of everyone involved for a track which will be one of the soundtracks of BBQ's boat and pool parties all summer long. Souleance, c'est le duo composé de Fulgeance (Musique Large / MPM) et de DJ Soulist (What the Funk). Depuis la sortie de leur premier EP, Le Monde, en 2009, ils se sont forgés une solide réputation en se réappropriant de manière très personnelle rythmes soul et electro. Comptant parmi leurs fans, Gilles Peterson, Danny Breaks ou Mr Thing, leur premier album, La Belle Vie, a couronné 3 ans de beat-making et de concerts.
Alors que d'autres producteurs se seraient reposés sur leurs lauriers après un premier album, Souleance est retourné rapidement en studio produire La Beat Tape. La variété des styles de cette beat tape est la clef et Souleance ne déçoit pas.
On y retrouve des musiques turques traditionnelles ("Sauce Samurai"), un orgue Hammond funk ("L'Insouleance"), des extraits de western hallucinés ("Tout Doux"), du jazz trouble ("Kipseli Street Interlude"), des rythmes fantômes ("Strongest love"), des mélodies hip-hop cuivrées flamboyantes ("Como Estan Bitches"), des synthés 80iess ("Cocktail Time")...

Following on from the success of their debut LP 'La Belle Vie' from earlier this year, the French duo have been busy in the studio producing La Beat Tape. 20 tracks deep, the release is aimed squarely at the DJs, with a succession of guaranteed party-starters. This is rounded out with some typically quirky interludes, jazzy beat excursions and blissed out trip hop.
Souleance are producer Fulgeance (Musique Large / One Handed Music) and DJ Soulist (What The Funk Paris?). Since releasing their debut EP (Le Monde) back in 2009, they have built a solid reputation for their idiosyncratic take on modern beats. With fans including Gilles Peterson, Danny Breaks, Lefto and Mr Thing, their debut album was the culmination of 3 years of beat-making, touring, partying and drinking too much Pimms. Whilst other producers would rest on their laurels after releasing their debut, Souleance got straight back into the studio to produce La Beat Tape - their sole aim to create tracks that they would DJ with themselves. The result is 20 tracks of pure dancefloor fire peppered with a smattering of chilled, lounge tracks in classic Souleance style.
Like any classic beat tape, variety is the key, and Souleance do not disappoint. La Beat Tape takes in heavy Turkish breaks (Sauce Samourai), Hammond funk (L'insouleance), tripped out western cinematics (Tout Doux), brooding jazz (Kipseli Street Interlude), Shadow-esque breaks (Strongest Love), Just Blaze-style horn-heavy hip hop (Como Estan Bitches), 80s synth-hop (Cocktail Time) and much much more.
The release is available as a budget-priced download with a limited edition 7" containing four tracks that we feel will be most useful for the DJs. With artwork by long-term collaborator Alice Dufay, it's sure to join their previous vinyl releases as a genuine collectors item.
