This @DarkScienceElectro label highlight is for legendary Dutch record label @Clone-nl - There is legitimately nothing that I could even say about the label that hasn't already been said about this 31-year-old mainstay. They have released some of the most important music in Electro music and their represses have made timeless music available to new generations of music lovers. We are forever indebted to Serge for all his hard work since starting the label in 1991. There cannot be a history of Electro without covering the major contributions of this Dutch imprint. Clone's impact reaches beyond just Electro music into Dub, Techno, IDM, House, and more. For the purposes of this mix, you could guess that my target was the more Electro-centric cuts from the discography.

For a year now we have been exploring the Electro space with you and have already had experienced pilots like DMX Krew, Boris Divider, MNLTH and many more on board. But this time we have something special for you!

GALAXIAN will join us and really put the full down.
His impressive sound at light-speed is energetic and driving. Despite his hard-to-class sound, he comfortably takes a space outside the easy-to-define genres of today and draws the audience under his spell. You can check this out for yourself on his releases on Last Known Trajectory or his latest with DJ Stingray on Shipwrec. His live shows with helmet and mask promise immersive experiences from distant galaxies.

ELECTRONOME is one of our electro activists you might know from the legendary Dutch labels like Murder Capital and Viewlexx which are run by I-F. It wasn't just for fun that some of his releases have been repressed recently and we're looking forward to his plans for the comeback. He is rarely on the road, so we look forward to his first visit to Berlin. Take a trip with deep basslines and electrical signals!

HEADNOAKS is one of the last explorers of the real Electro Vibe. Infected by the classic Detroit sound and his most mysterious Drexciya project, he recognized his mission to open up the hidden connections between human thought and computer arithmetic. The musical translation can be found on labels such as Transient Force or Blackred among others and he will soon release an EP on Possblthings Rec.
In addition, he is part of the Black Red Crew who together have organized a lot of crazy electro parties in Leipzig, where the most important musicians of the electro scene have been as guests - be it from Detroit, the UK, the Netherlands or elsewhere.

AXIOM as the host of the X: Ploration series will connect all this as usual.

As a DJ and artist, Berlin-based Hayden Payne, known predominantly by his Phase Fatale alias, has developed into one of the leading names taking EBM and post punk-informed industrial techno into raw and exciting territory the last five years. With his father involved in the music scene in the ’80s, his fascination with new wave and industrial bands stems way back, with him gravitating to more dance floor sounds as he was introduced to the Wierd parties on the Lower East Side of New York as a teen. This week sees him newly signed on by the Ostgut Booking agency, in a move that seemed all but confirmed with Payne’s now regular residencies at Berghain and the release of his debut outing on Ostgut with ‘Reverse Fall’ last year. Payne’s monolithic and immolating sound have always upheld well against the backdrop of Berghain, but he’s quick to stress that his work fits beyond just one side of the club, with his influences in synth wave, new beat, electro, and italo lending themselves to Laboratory and Snax too. 

We caught up with Payne to discuss his label BITE, telling us how him and his partner Florian had started the label with aims of operating beyond the borders of common preconceptions in techno. In the space of a year they’ve released debuts from Vulkaniski and REKA, a record from Teste, who celebrated their first record in 25 years, and a long-time-coming collaborative record between Payne and close friend Silent Servant. Falling by sheer coincidence on Truancy Volume 242, this serendipitous addition to our series has Payne digging through a lot of his current favourites, creating a sonic whirlpool of selections that pulls in electro, industrial, EBM and techno in a genre blurring manner. At an hour and forty minutes there's a substantial amount of music to get stuck into.

Basic Space’s zeal for music is deeply rooted. As organizer of the techno event series Momentvm, he made decisive contributions to great and memorable events in Zurich where he is based. American Phase Fatale is one of the residents responsible for defining the current Berghain sound. As well as regular DJ sets in the Berlin techno dungeon, his latest album, 'Scanning Backwards' — which was released on in-house label Ostgut Ton last month — was made with the cavernous club in mind. Just like his arresting DJ sets take influence from post punk, EBM and industrial, the album also looks outside techno's usual borders: snippets of speech, "brain-penetrating instrumentation" and plenty of raw textures all inform its grooves and make for a hugely visceral listen.

On this week's mix, he serves up an uncompromising set of angular rhythms, doom laden synths and fizzing techno that is perfect for the darkest dance floors out there. Importantly, there are still nuances along the way despite the pumping machismo of it all. They keep you on the edge of your seat as the dystopian drama unfolds and all consuming bleakness draws you ever deeper into a world devoid of human life forms. It's beautiful brutality from start to finish.
