This song was originally called Tropicana, but it eventually evolved into something much more boppier, so hence this version is called Tripicana. I never got around to mastering this one and I would rather keep moving forward with new stuff so I am just releasing it as is.

Filth-E

Emotive is a composition structured into two contrasting movements. The first movement is intended to build tension, whereas the goal of the second movement is to release this tension and make the listener feel calm and relaxed.

The sounds in this piece have been created by manipulating pure tones that are known as the “solfeggio frequencies”.  These frequencies are often used in sound therapy to aid in improving emotional health and well-being. Each of these frequencies is associated with a chakra point on the body and it is believed that listening to these tones while meditating can unblock the chakras and restore balance and harmony to the soul.

These popular beliefs should be taken with a grain of salt as there is little scientific evidence to back up these claims. However, it is difficult to deny that music provokes emotional reactions in our bodies, and there have been numerous studies that show how music can help reduce stress. 

The ultimate goal of this piece is to have the listener come away feeling relaxed. Whether this has been achieved by unblocking of chakra points or perhaps it is just the placebo effect.

Emotive

Before the listener is influenced by this program note they should form their interpretation of this piece by listening and reflecting on the composition. They should take note of how the composition makes them feel and what the choice of sounds may represent.

The motivation for this composition is due to the composer’s experience and personal connection with stress and anxiety. The objective of this composition is to make the listener aware of how common stress and anxiety is in modern life, and the damaging effects it can have on an individual as well as society.

The piece begins with the calming sound of the ocean, this is then interrupted by distressing sounds from modern life, as the piece progresses you hear a heartbeat get faster and faster, this is accompanied by panicked breathing. Then slowly the breathing becomes under control, the heart rate drops, the distressing sounds fade, and the sound of the calm ocean comes back. This is an analogy for how a person can become overwhelmed by stress, but they can take steps such as the practice of mindfulness to combat this.

Disquiet

This piece is best listened to over monitors with a wide frequency response and accurate stereo
image. This allows the listener to appreciate the movement in the stereo field and feel the impact of
the lower frequencies.
The composer is still in unfamiliar territory with electroacoustic composing and is still searching to
find their artistic voice. Thus, this piece is titled eclecticism, eclecticism is the process of deriving
new concepts or taking new approaches to form an idea based on a varied range of material.
One noteworthy composer that influenced this piece is Holly Herndon, the use of chopped vocal
choir sounds and noise in this piece have been inspired by her techniques. The piece is also
influenced by electronic music with a pulse, such as techno and house music. The composer
attempts to frame this music in an electroacoustic context. The influence from the house and techno
music is obvious with the element of the kick drum and baseline. Where the electroacoustic
elements can be heard is through the experimentation with feedback and reverse effects.
