We’ve had MISOGI’s ‘Occult’ LP on repeat for the past few months. It’s a careful blend of the dark, distorted production that leaves you slightly hypnotised & wondering where the last 30 minutes went. 
And although his new single ‘Lantana’ is slightly less dark, the track still entrances with a flourish of melody, driven by a intricate drum patten & sturdy bass line. 
It definitely requires multiple listens to really admire the little delicacies throughout, as the Dubai based producer is set to build upon his impressive catalogue along side his upcoming collective HURT next year.

Led by delicate yet powerful vocals the Berlin based Swedish quintet TULA is one of the most exciting new acts coming out of Scandinavia with their unique brand of electronic pop, a mix of Massive Attack inspired nineties trip-hop and current day Scandipop. Having formed following each of the members moving to Berlin individually within the space of a week and meeting in a local bar, the band converted an abandoned warehouse they stumbled upon into a private studio where they spent years perfecting their sound in front of live audiences.

Since then TULA has become a steady fixture of Berlin’s club scene as well as performed live all around Germany and with the release of Wicked Game TULA made a big splash last fall with their cover of Chris Isaak’s classic Wicked Game. The cover instantly garnered a lot of attention and quickly rose to the coveted number two spot of the Hype Machine’s “Popular” chart in late September, picking up praise the likes of Pigeons & Planes, DIY and Hillydilly.

Wicked Game was the first track to be released from TULA’s recording sessions with Swedish producer Klas Åhlund in the famed Hansa Tonstudio in Berlin, with TULA’s next single River - their most overt pop track to date - also being taken from the same sessions. Åhlund, a long-time collaborator of Robyn who has previously worked with acts like Tove Lo, Usher, Madonna and Kylie Minogue, helped bringing TULA’s melodies to the front, while keeping the sensitive and affecting songwriting intact.

Mad Liberation is a collection of songs that I have been working on for the past year that ranged from mostly original compositions to varied sample work (retro vinyl recordings and new all original recordings); digital synthesis that took me weeks to master; to live instrumentation tediously and soulfully recorded by myself and some of my very good friends. 

This collection of noise - to me - became an album, a sound in a whole, an idea free from limits of thought and more an idea of the heart and soul. Mad Liberation is a piece of me that is representative of my past, breathes life into my present, and is a taste of the future. 

I don't have fancy recording equipment, amazing speakers, crazy keyboards, complicated sample packs, proper studio time, cutting edge midi controllers, or outboard mixing gear. 

What I do have is an endless imagination of the future/now, unrelenting will, constant fascination, and a heart that has no capacity to stop loving and trying. 

This business - when you boil it down - is not about the machine, but about the man. Even electronic music is humanistic. We breath life into these dead things to make them whisper and ROAR!! I am inspired by that fact, and this is what sets me free.
