"Four Daughters" had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in the Main Competition section, where it competed for the Palm d'Or and won the L'Œil d'or (Shared with "The Mother Of All Lies"). Director Kaouther Ben Hania's ("The Man Who Sold His Skin") film recently won the Gotham Award for Best Documentary Feature and has now been nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Documentary Feature. It is campaigning for an Oscar nomination in the Best Documentary Feature category but is also the Tunisian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards. Ben Hania was kind enough to spend some time with us discussing her film, the journey it's been on since its world premiere, and more, which you can listen to or watch below. Pre-Globes Gambling Preview w/ David Long! - ORC 12/19/23

"Maestro" had its world premiere at the 2023 Venice International Film Festival, where it competed for the Golden Lion. It is the second film to be directed by Academy Award-nominee Bradley Cooper following "A Star Is Born" and features him and Academy Award-nominee Carey Mulligan transforming into Leonard Bernstein and his wife, Felicia Montealegre. The two were kind enough to spend a little bit of time talking with me about their work on the film, and I also got the chance to speak with the film's Costume Designer, Academy Award-winner Mark Bridges. Dan Bayer also interviewed Academy Award-winning Supervising Sound Editor Richard King. All three interviews can be listened to below. A Behind The Scenes Look At "Maestro"

"Flamin' Hot" premiered at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival, where it received positive reviews and was later released on Hulu and Disney+ over the summer. Academy Award-winner Diane Warren has been nominated at the Oscars 14 times in competitive categories. This year, she's shortlisted for writing the song for the film titled "The Fire Inside," performed by Becky G. Nominated already by the Society of Composers and Lyricists and Hollywood Music in Media, she could very well earn her 15th competitive nomination this year for the song which has over 2 million views on YouTube. Warren was kind enough to spend some time talking with us about her work on the song, which you can listen to below. "The Teachers' Lounge" premiered at the 2023 Berlin International Film Festival, receiving critical acclaim for its direction, writing, and lead performance from Leonie Benesch. It went on to play many other film festivals throughout the year, ultimately receiving Germany's selection for Best International Feature Film at this year's Academy Awards. Director and co-writer İlker Çatak was kind enough to speak with us following the film's Oscar nomination for Best International Feature Film to discuss his experience making the film, what went into the film's screenplay, how the film's tension was influenced by "Uncut Gems" and more. The Mikes of Oscar return for yet another installment of your favorite new podcast series, MMO Weekly, and to re-introduce what this new podcast format is all about, I ought to go no further than the Mike 1’s tagline.  We review the Hollywood week that was and preview the Hollyweird week that will be. 

In reviewing the Hollywood week that was, we started that off with a What We’re Watching segment that usually covers what else we’ve been taking in just for fun as moviegoers, TV watchers, or youtube addicted millennials. This week, Also Mike re-watched Crazy Rich Asians and A Star Is Born while Mike 1 took in Making a Murderer: Season 2. We continue our movie trivia game SixDegreesOfMMO, read the winners of round 6, and officially designate our first two time winner and championship belt holder for this Six Degrees Of Kevin Bacon inspired game.  Then for our Stories of the Week segment, we review the trailer of The Lion King that broke FilmTwitter this past Turkey Day as well as the newest look at Tim Burton’s Dumbo before reviewing the illustrious filmography of Nicholas Roeg. And of course, we update you on the record breaking Thanksgiving week box office and the two big stories most recently affecting this year’s Oscar Race involving Vice and Green Book.

We also do a helluva lot to preview that Hollyweird week to come. Our Do You Care segment looks forward to next week’s box office as we weigh in on the upcoming theatrical releases: The Possession of Hannah Grace, Anna and the Apocalypse, and Mirai. We lay down the next SixDegreesOfMMO challenge no. 7, which will baffle / delight / enrage / arouse ALL of your movie trivia powers, and we dare you to solve this Gordian knot in only a few moves. Finally, our Oscar Race update does as much to review the big stories as it does to preview the upcoming Vice movie coming out in late December before we follow up on our recent Oscar Sprint Profile of Green Book by handicapping its chances at receiving love at the podium after yet another controversial story hit in the Hollywood trades.
