The film received a massive wave of critical support after its long film festival run, which led to industry recognition, a historic Best Director win for Bigelow, making her the first female winner of the category, and Best Picture itself. The film follows an Iraq War Explosive Ordnance Disposal team who are targeted by insurgents and shows their psychological reactions to the stress of combat. Il docu.film "Fiume o morte" di Igor Bezinović è il candidato croato agli Oscar di quest'anno. A deciderlo, la Commissione della Società Croata degli Operatori Cinematografici, che ha scelto il film come candidato nazionale per la preselezione degli Academy Awards.
La pellicola, alla quale Bezinović ha lavorato per 10 anni, è una ricerca approfondita, con filmati e fotografie scattate all'epoca dell'"impresa dannunziana di Fiume", durata 16 mesi, dal settembre 1919 al dicembre 1920. 
Ma cio' che rende unico questo film e' che Bezinović ha coinvolto gli abitanti di Fiume e, per la prima volta, ha dato un ruolo fondamentale al dialetto fiumano.
"Fiume o morte" e' diventato il documentario più visto nei cinema della Croazia, con oltre 34 mila spettatori. E il dialetto fiumano ha fatto il giro del mondo! Per noi, le prime emozioni del grande regista, Igor Bezinović.
