CHRONIQUE FRANCOFANS - Septembre 2014: 

Fondateur du groupe Les Hôtes, Olivier L’Hôte revient avec un album sous son patronyme, après un EP sorti en 2009. La délicatesse de l’écriture et des images poétiques, la justesse de l’interprétation et la richesse des arrangements font de ce disque un projet très abouti. Tout au long de ces onze titres, qui font la part belle aux instruments à cordes, la formation réussit à alterner parfaitement les ambiances et les couleurs musicales. Dans des chansons tour à tour légères, entraînantes, troublantes ou lancinantes, il est question de la vie et de ses aléas ou des sentiments humains, des sujets très simples au demeurant mais essentiels. C’est avec enthousiasme qu’on se laisse emporter par la voix tantôt douce, tantôt puissante du chanteur et les envolées du violon, en particulier dans les très jolis «Fantastique et monotone » ou « Surprends-moi ». Au final un petit bijou de sensibilité et de poésie, dont on ressort grandi.

Soundtrack from the movie Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence (戦場のメリークリスマス), a.k.a. Furyo in Europe, directed by Nagisa Oshima, and starring David Bowie, Tom Conti, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Takeshi Kitano.

The instrument is a Kawai VPC1 controlling a Clavia Nord Stage 2, using a sampled Yamaha C7 grand piano, and... straight from the 80's a sampled preset named "Touch Perco" from the Yamaha DX7 mk2 synth.

La estructura de Ommadawn es fantástica. La primera parte se desarrolla sobre la base de una pequeña melodía tradicional, que quizás fuera una canción infantil. Sobre esta melodía se va creando una estructura que sirve para introducir diversos pasajes en los que a menudo se intercambian melodía y acompañamiento. Aqui Mike demuestra su ya consolidado manejo del estudio de grabación como instrumento y consigue crear una música contemplativa de una belleza impresionante. En la sección final la melodía inicial sirve de nuevo para crear otro ambiente aún más hipnótico entre tambores africanos y voces femeninas que enlazan sílabas en unos versos ininteligibles. Una de las palabras que pronuncian suena como Ommadawn, y es la que da título al disco, que no tiene ningún otro significado según el propio Oldfield. El final de esta primera parte constituye un auténtico clímax, dirigido finalmente por una guitarra eléctrica hacia la paz de los tambores africanos en solitario.

Following the worldwide success of the 'Paul's Boutique' remix project 'Caught In The Middle of A 3 Way Mix'  (produced with fellow Solid Steel DJs; Moneyshot and DJ Food) DJ Cheeba returns with another documentary style mix charting the huge influence and mass appeal of arguably the greatest rock band of all time: Led Zeppelin. 

This mix has been made to coincide with the release of  'Celebration Day' and digs chronologically through the band's first six albums (1969-1975), picking out key tracks, their influences, subsequent covers and some of the notable examples of where they were sampled in hip hop, dance music and pop.

From 'Good Times, Bad Times' to 'Kashmir' this is a DJ mix made for everyone from the die hard fans who were there in 69' to the kids who only know the name from the iconic tee shirts. Turn it up loud... there's no other way to hear it!
