Ligovskoï is the project of Nikolaï Azonov and Valerio Selig, based in Paris and Brussels. Formed in 2010 the pair create experimental soundscapes that shapeshift between ambient and drone. Using field recordings in addition to acoustic instruments and synthesisers to create atmospheric tracks.

Their live shows showcase their use of A/V technology creating an immersive experience for their audience taking them on a journey of deep contemplation.

In 2011 they contributed to the 'Outland' compilation, a project from Parisian label Silicate based on the 1983 science-fiction film by Peter Hyams and have released an album on Kyoto based imprint Ilya. Their second project for DEMENT3D, the 'Mana' EP, was released today.

We're pretty chuffed to have them join our Monday club. So stick your headphones in and sit back and remember that Monday IS ok.

"This mix is a very personal affair in that it tries to convey our understanding of music as a manifold without sharply defined boundaries. Though we sometimes overthink by trying to embed it into a web of well-defined criteria, we both think it's important to just let music go. There is a certain aspect to this which seems impossible to put into words - barring poems or novels maybe - because it is felt and not rationalized. 

The frustration with trying to put it into words somehow resulted in a mix starting at our nearest source of music, the cacophony of civilized society, ending in our oldest and most fundamental source of music, nature. The soundscapes describe the continuous transition of sounds, melodies and noises associated with a civilized environment from early in the morning up to late at night. The mix then proceeds to describe the same, inevitable course of events in a different, more natural environment (in fact, we take a train to get there). 

Interestingly, people (ourselves included) tend to skip the first part because they find it unpleasant (roughly up to 1.30 for a heads up). Does that say something about us? Maybe. "

Shpudeiko comments on the mixtape: "A bit weird selection. One would think, if have an opportunity to record a playlist, you should take one composition per an artist. A playlist format suggests and even binds you over to do so. Why there are three tracks by James Tenney in such relatively short playlist? Alas, I do not know the answer. I tried to select the music that haunts me in these days. It doesn’t mean that I frequently listen to it or I’m permanently impressed by it. Rather these are the compositions and ideas that emerge from some obscure depths and claim attention and then disappear again for unpredictable period of time. One composition may serve as an illustration to the beginning of our conversation. It's the last track by Pauline Oliveros that represents the practice of deep listening as an alternative to dominating way of perceiving music. ".

Wild soundscapes from Benedict Drew, an artist splitting his time between installation art and music that hums and spills over with vivid material encounters; sounds are slurpy, runny, fizzy, spongy, hard as rock.

After digital releases, a tape for patten’s Kaleidoscope label, a musical score to accompany his De Re Touch video art project commissioned by Transport for London’s Art on the Underground, and many active years in London’s experimental music scene through work with the London Musicians’ Collective, Ninja Tune, and live collaborations with Rhodri Davies, Chris Watson and Sachiko M; Crawling Through Tory Slime is Drew’s debut long-playing record. Music on each of the record’s faces bleeds together continuously, recalling long improvisational sets, floor-sucking dub-wise, psychedelia, plunderphonics, and tight GRM-era electronic sound design pieced together with drum machines, cloudy synthesiser, bits n’ bobs. There’s a certain English charm, humour and taste for cheap science fiction and cobbled-together escape routes out of reality that follows a lineage set out by artists like Jeff Keen or Bruce Lacey, reset for the exciting horrors and delights of contemporary life.

Benedict Drew’s solo exhibition The Trickle Down Syndrome runs from June to September at the Whitechapel Gallery, designed over the same period as the LP and "drawing on wide-ranging references, from the stage sets of classic Hollywood cinematographer Busby Berkeley to the Surrealist worlds of artist Max Ernst".
