A word from Jesse Rose:
“It’s been an amazing rollercoaster of a ride with Play It Down and when asked why I would stop releasing in its current incarnation the answer was obvious. I’ve always been very involved in the A&R process of all the releases. I’ve always felt confident to tell an artist if something should be taken out or added because I have spent (near enough) every weekend for the last two decades in a club, listening and playing House music. I would test the demos in my sets and know automatically what felt right and what felt wrong. If I’m not playing in clubs it wouldn’t feel right for me to tell someone who is playing shows every weekend how their record should sound. And ultimately, Play It Down for me has been about finding music I've wanted to play in my sets. So for the minute it’s a massive thank you to all the artists, fellow DJs, supporters, club-goers,
distributors, journalists, radio presenters, interns, promoters, bootleggers, and to Laura (who has worked day-in & day-out overseeing near every part of the label for the past five years) for letting us come up with dreams that all of you have helped make a reality.
This Play It Down 100 compilation album of original tracks brings back all the current roster to collaborate and a few tracks written solo by some of our key artists. It was a very enjoyable process to see what they would all come back with.”

Originally released on Toolroom in 2015, Technasia and Green Velvet’s huge summer anthem ‘Suga’ quickly became one of the label’s stand-out releases of recent years, soaring to the top of the Beatport charts within days and featuring within a long list of sets from a host of the industry’s biggest names as the two combined to offer up one of the year’s Ibiza tracks of the season. Now five years on from its original debut, Toolroom revisit the back-catalogue favourite this October as they welcome leading talents Detlef and David Penn to deliver their own take on the production and offer up two huge remixes for 2020.

Harnessing the original production’s iconic vocals, Detlef steps up to take the reins as he delivers a driving interpretation guided by rolling metallic drums and swirling synths, before handing over to David Penn who introduces paired back, refined percussion arrangements alongside the track’s funk-fuelled guitar licks to deliver a resonant house cut and shape up proceedings in style.

Be it for a never-ending string of his chart-topping productions and remixes, his DJ-sets from Ultra Europe to Ministry of Sound and Carl Cox’s Revolution at Space Ibiza, Beatport results (he’s one of Beatport Top 100 best-selling artists of all time, previously featured in “The Ones To Watch” and “Hottest Tech-House Artists”) or his warm personality, Mike Vale does indeed stand out from the myriad of generic-sounding peers. 
While his sound is hard to pigeonhole, Mike can’t hide the fact he comes from the environment that has championed rougher, vanguard, alternative, techy sound, although British and American house culture predominantly influenced his taste in music, this blend best reflected in some of Mike’s recent club bangers and charts climbers, such as ‘Back To You’ EP on Strictly Rhythm, ‘Mint Twist’ on Green Velvet’s Relief as well as a rework of The Prodigy’s ‘No Good’.

Just in time for summer season Mike scored yet another Beatport House #1 with his master take on Danny Denaglia ft. Celeda’s classic track ‘Music Is The Answer’ on Glasgow Underground (canned heavily at Coachella and EDC Las Vegas and supported by Fisher, Chris Lake, Claptone, Hot Since 82, Erick Morillo, BBC Radio 1 …) while taking his tour through European party hotspots (Ultra Europe - Resistance with Carl Cox and Nic Fanciulli, Egg London, mundane isle of Hvar) all the way to Australia.
