For my latest mix, I really wanted to go in a different direction from what you'd usually hear from me. With Valentine's Day and City Hearts LA coming up this Saturday, I wanted to dedicate a mix entirely to what I think is the most important thing in the world, Love. There's a reason Love is the main theme that drives our festivals and Desert Hearts​ Records. Our community has been able to open the hearts and minds of so many incredible people and our goal is to ultimately share that message of love with the rest of the world.  <3

So this mix is dedicated to all of you lovers out there. Whether you're single or in a relationship, if you have love to give I believe the universe will return that love to you. Some of these songs are new and some are old, but they've all had a profound impact on my life over the years and I wanted to put something together that really makes you feel. The release is a little more on the upfront side for a VQ release and it's a drugged out anthem for everyone who likes to get that little bit extra frisky on the dancefloor.

I feel like so many DJs these days have been trying to go so deep with who can play the most avant garde music that it gets to the point that the dance floor is literally a bunch of people standing around talking about what a "spiritual experience" they're having. I'm sorry, but fuck that shit. Flying in models from around the world to create your party's exclusive vibe goes against everything I stand for. Real vibe comes from the heart and it comes from the love for the music and the love for one another.  Trust me if anyone can have a spiritual experience on the dance floor it's me, but mine usually happen when I've got my eyes closed and I'm locked into a tight ass house groove. I don't pretend the music I play is better than anyone else's because it's not. I just want to have fun and rage with the people I love. I think this live mix from our Desert Hearts 3 Year Anniversary Festival sums it up pretty nicely!

This is the guest mix I recorded for Claude Vonstroke's The Birdhouse Radio Show for April 2016. Not a lot of people know this but one of the first proper parties I ever went to was Claude's private birthday party back when I was just a young buck. That night had such a profound impact on my life so when I was asked to record a mix for The Birdhouse it was like everything coming full circle. Hope you guys enjoy!

Recorded live on Saturday afternoon at our Desert Hearts Spring Festival 2016. About a week before this past Desert Hearts, I had the most incredible party session ever at Space Miami during a Marco Carola marathon set. It was tech house perfection in all it's glory and I became so fired up to play in that style at DH. I wanted to beat up the dance floor during this set... in a nice way! Then Papa Lee Reynolds came and joined me for a little b2b during the last 30 minutes and he's pretty good at beating up dance floors too.  Desert Hearts is truly my favorite place to play in the universe and I hope you have as much fun listening as I did playing for you. House, Techno, & Love... We Are All Desert Hearts. <3

Mikey Lion - Live @ Desert Hearts 2016

What a difference a year can make for us at Symbiosis Gathering. 2015 was our first year playing the festival and we were blown away by the vibe at our Thursday Desert Hearts Takeover of the Juke Town stage. While that party was awesome, we knew if given the opportunity of a headlining slot on Friday, we could create something really special for such a vibe oriented and open minded crowd. 

This year we were given that ultimate opportunity to really show the beautiful people of Symbiosis what Desert Hearts is all about. With an all day takeover of the Swimbiosis Stage on Friday, we were given the keys to the castle and asked to do anything we wanted for 6 hours. It was the ultimate privilege to throw the ultimate party. Outside of playing on our home court at our Desert Hearts Festivals, the DH Takeover at Symbiosis was probably the best party we’ve ever played. It was like Spring Break on house, techno, & love steroids. We even had a 360 degree Funkworks Funktion-One system to make us feel right at home. From the DJ booth to the horizon, we were surrounded by a sea of people dancing as hard as possible. This is what Symbiosis is all about and we can’t thank the organizers enough for letting us spread our message of love so far and wide. Now get ready to relive one of the best parties we’ve ever played.

Marques Wyatt has been someone we've looked up to for years, not just for his music but because he's been an absolute beacon of light in our community for as long as we can remember. For one reason or another it never worked out getting Marques on a Desert Hearts lineup, but every time we ran into him expressing our desire to book him, he'd flash us his big bright smile and say, "When it's meant to be, it's meant to be." Well in 2017 it was meant to be and we finally got this ray of positivity at the helm of our Desert Hearts dance floor. The result was pure magic, pure vibe, & pure love. It was the uniting of a house music legend with the tribe he's supposed to be a part of. Welcome to the Family, Marques. Your spirit's always been here but now it's official. Parallx grew up in a family of musicians in the industrial metropolis called Ruhrgebiet in West Germany. He performed minor drum and samba acts at a small festival in the middle of Germany at the age of eight, his rhythmic obsession caught a hold of him fueling his drive for musical composition till present day. After graduating school he found his new home in Berlin where he has been heavily influenced by the techno, house and art scene. During his Interface-Design studies, he completed a course called “musical interfaces”, designed and built his own MIDI controller called "Sound Radar”, and continued to integrate his style into the world of music production.
Parallx is constantly in pursuit of selfexpression, regardless of whether its music or visual art. Equipped with enormous energy and willpower, he is always hunting for new inspirations and new ways to improve his music. Parallx faithfully releases on Modu , hard-line Berlin based label, run by his partner in crime Escape to Mars with whom he also realsed EP in March this year. His powerful, stomping and dark track 'Bruised' has been played by the greatest DJs at Berghain / Panorama Bar​ and other clubs.
His latest absolutely flawless debut on Emmanuel​'s label - ARTS turned out to be a great success which gave him much recognition in the techno scene. Indeed, we are impressed.

Coachella was my very first festival I ever attended. That first night I saw Daft Punk Live and in that moment I decided I didn't want to be a Hip Hop DJ anymore and that my true calling was DJing House Music. From 2006-2010 Coachella was all I knew of the festival world. To me it was the best weekend of the year, every year. The Do LaB was always my favorite stage at Coachella because I thought of it as a safe haven for the freakiest people at the festival. It wasn't until 2011 that my friend dragged me to The Do Lab's Lightning In A Bottle Festival that my entire world was flipped upside down again. This whole time I had been broing down at Coachella, there was a community of freaks and weirdos thriving just an hour from my house. These were my people and I had found my new home. While having an epiphany moment of love on the dance floor, a woman looked at me and said, "Honey you need to go to Burning Man". And the rest is history...

The Do LaB ultimately led me to the life I live now. Without The Do LaB there would be no Desert Hearts and my life would probably be very different now. Being able to come full circle and play The Do LaB at Coachella in front of all my friends and family with the Desert Hearts Crew was a dream come true. I hope you enjoy the set!

Part mythical desert harlequin, part modern soul conductor, Mikey Lion is more than a DJ––He’s a freak of nature and an energy controller. The San Diego-native has earned a dusty mystique over the past few years as the center of the Desert Hearts movement and as a house and techno provocateur with a stage presence that suggests he will ride this wave all the way to the top. If there's one thing Mikey does well, it's get the party started.

Lion, real name Michael Leon, has brought the mothafuckin' ruckus to the stages of Lightning in a Bottle, the dustiest storms at Burning Man, and The Do LaB at Coachella, earning nods from Claude VonStroke, Jamie Jones, and Green Velvet in the process. In doing so, Lion and his signature top hat have developed a boisterous voice in the House & Techno scene with strong tribal, hip-hop, and psychedelic elements.

But it all started with Wu-Tang and Daft Punk. Lion first found his way behind the decks as a thirteen year old kid, scratching underground hip-hop records religiously after school. At Coachella as a seventeen year old, he witnessed that legendary Daft Punk performance on the same night he tasted his first dose of psychedelics. The show had such a monumental impact on him, he gave up Hip-Hop and became a House DJ the very next day.

After honing his craft with weekly marathon DJ sessions at Sala Razzmatazz in Barcelona, Mikey was introduced to Burner culture at Lightning in a Bottle, 2011. It was at his first Burning Man in 2011 that he found a community calling and merged forces with his brother Porkchop, life long friends Marbs & Deep Jesus, and the inimitable Lee Reynolds to form The Desert Hearts Crew.

In November 2012, Desert Hearts began as a seedy, 200-person renegade gathering deep in the Mojave Desert. The intrepid crew barely survived a set of extreme weather conditions and unfortunate circumstances, but that first party sparked a fire. The entire point of that first Desert Hearts was to create as much love as humanly possible, and now that same gathering has evolved into the darling of the West Coast house and techno scene. The Bi-annual festival is capped at 3500 attendees in order to create the best possible vibe. Built upon beautiful people getting as weird as possible to deep and trippy house and techno, Desert Hearts has already achieved iconic status in the North American Festival Scene. 

Desert Hearts has given rise to a family of thousands and it's safe to call it a bonafide movement of love. And while Desert Hearts Records launched in 2014 as a totally-free record label, pushes the sonic aesthetic of the scene, the crew’s busy international calendar of bookings has the DH message spreading far and wide. At the center of it all is Mikey Lion, the dusty prince of desert hearts, a beacon of weird far and wide, and one of this generation’s most compelling agents of love.
