Before I started playing I actually got really nervous as this was definitely going to be the biggest crowd I’ve played for since the pandemic and maybe the  biggest crowd I’ve ever played for. I got to watch all my friends smash it on stage before me but being there so long before my set was definitely making me anxious. I always try to get some alone time right before I play so I can meditate and ask the universe to let me help heal as many people as possible with my music and energy. As I was walking off to my trailer to meditate, a personal DJ hero to me, DJ Dan, stopped me and told me, “There are DJs and then there are healers, and you, Mikey Lion, are a healer and a storyteller with your music.” 

To me this was such a massive good omen and wink from the universe that I’m on the right track. Those words from Dan totally erased all the nerves I had and gave me so much confidence to play music for all you beautiful people. I love you all ✌️💗

I just played my favorite set of 2021 last weekend in Toronto at Coda. What a way to finish off the year. UPH Collective throws a hell of a party and I got to play for 3 hours to a packed house. I don't get to play enough extended sets these days, but when I do I always make the most of them. I was on Cloud 9 after I finished this set and I'm stoked I get to share it with you. Enjoy!

This set was recorded at 6am sunrise, Monday morning at our Desert Hearts 1 Year Anniversary festival.  The Desert Hearts Crew and myself had been up and running the party for 4 days straight at this point and it was time to close down the best weekend and best party of our lives.  

Over the past year we had built Desert Hearts from a small 200 person gathering into one of the premier 1500 person parties in the world.  Not exaggerating, I would honestly put our Desert Hearts 1 Year Anniversary gathering up against any party in the world.  Everything was so surreal in this moment... it was a culmination of everything I had worked towards in my life and this was my victory lap.  This set starts with me mixing out of Marbs' last track in the beginning and also has a little b2b action with the homie Evan Casey in the last 30 minutes.

Without further ado, this is my version of Desert Hearts Sunrise...  Mentally and physically drained, more proud than I've ever been in my life, surrounded by my closest friends and family, and coming down from one of the most intense acid trips of my life.  I hope you enjoy. <3

"The Do Lab has always been a major source of inspiration for me in my adult life. My first transformational festival was Lightning In A Bottle 2011 and it completely changed my life. The festival had such a profound impact on me that I actually took my parents to LIB 2012 when I played The Woogie Stage for the first time. That weekend was a turning point in my life as it was the weekend I realized I had enough talent to DJ for a living if I went for it 100%. I felt so inspired that I went home, quit my job, and started my own 3 day festival and events production company, Desert Hearts, with my best friends and family.  In 2014, I was lucky enough that The Do Lab asked me to play their stage at Coachella, a super surreal experience for me since Coachella 2006 was the festival that kickstarted my intense passion for music. 

I consider myself very fortunate to have witnessed the growth of The Do Lab and Lightning In A Bottle first hand.  I can't even begin to tell you how insane it was playing LIB 2015. The first time I played The Woogie Stage in 2012, there was about 50 people on the dance floor when I started my set. I can tell you I got the biggest goosebumps of my life when I stepped up and saw over 1000 people in the crowd at The Woogie in 2012. 

I want to thank The Do Lab, Jesse Wright & Sammy Bliss from The Woogie, and everyone else who's believed in me as an artist and helped me grow. I didn't think Woogie Weekend was in the cards for me this year... and just like that I'm back to where it all started. "

'Into The Jungle' is the first collaboration between Desert Hearts Records boss, Mikey Lion, alongside Sol Selectas Records honcho, Sabo. Both known for regularly droppin' tribalistic drum grooves, Mikey & Sabo bonded over a common love of music and a less common love of skateboarding. They both knew it was only a matter of time before they got in the studio together to make some magic. The title track 'Into The Jungle' is a deep, forward thinking tune that takes the listener on a ride through the mystical depths of the jungle. You can almost feel the energy of the jungle breathing down your neck as you make your way through the song's rises and falls. 'Lonely Boy's Mighty Jungle Mix' takes it up another notch as the same mystic synths from the original track build for nearly 4 minutes before exploding into a massive high energy drop. The result is a 9 minute epic that is sure to rock any peak time dance floor. The next track on the EP titled 'Sally', is a much darker, stomper of a tune you wouldn't normally expect from Mikey & Sabo. Laced with big kicks, heavy synths, and cryptic vocals to boot, 'Sally' was made for peak time in a dark warehouse. Finally, to round off the EP, 'Sally' gets remixed by badass Joyce Muniz who brings a cranking tech house vibe to the track. The bassline chugs along to constantly changing high hats until the acid synth at the end brings the whole thing home. In typical Desert Hearts fashion, this entire EP was made to crush dance floors.

Then Papa Lee Reynolds came and joined me for a little b2b during the last 30 minutes and he's pretty good at beating up dance floors too.  Desert Hearts is truly my favorite place to play in the universe and I hope you have as much fun listening as I did playing for you. House, Techno, & Love... We Are All Desert Hearts. <3

Coachella was my very first festival I ever attended. That first night I saw Daft Punk Live and in that moment I decided I didn't want to be a Hip Hop DJ anymore and that my true calling was DJing House Music. From 2006-2010 Coachella was all I knew of the festival world. To me it was the best weekend of the year, every year. The Do LaB was always my favorite stage at Coachella because I thought of it as a safe haven for the freakiest people at the festival. It wasn't until 2011 that my friend dragged me to The Do Lab's Lightning In A Bottle Festival that my entire world was flipped upside down again. This whole time I had been broing down at Coachella, there was a community of freaks and weirdos thriving just an hour from my house. These were my people and I had found my new home. While having an epiphany moment of love on the dance floor, a woman looked at me and said, "Honey you need to go to Burning Man". And the rest is history...

The Do LaB ultimately led me to the life I live now. Without The Do LaB there would be no Desert Hearts and my life would probably be very different now. Being able to come full circle and play The Do LaB at Coachella in front of all my friends and family with the Desert Hearts Crew was a dream come true. I hope you enjoy the set!

From chasing waves as a kid in San Diego, to chasing my mind as an adult at Burning Man... it doesn’t matter which one we’re talking about - the Playa will always have a special place in my heart.

Three years ago I released a track called 'Playa Dreams' on my Drum Formulas EP, which was a clear reflection of my soul trying to find my life's purpose. Although I had an idea of what was to come, Desert Hearts was still in its infancy... also trying to find its voice.

It's now 2018 and Desert Hearts is the only future I know. Our purpose of spreading love and positive energy is written in our destiny. I now know I have the power to control energy and have never been more determined to change the world with this message.

I recorded this mix opening the night at our last City Hearts Los Angeles party at The Belasco and all 2.5 hours pretty much span my entire taste in House these days. It starts off chill, but builds and builds and builds.... 

It doesn’t matter which Playa you’re on, this music was made for it.

I'm really excited to share with you my live set from Electric Forest 2018. It's definitely one of my favorite sets I played all year.  I actually almost missed my set because I accidentally drove to Milwaukee from Chicago and had to take a ferry across Lake Michigan... NICE! After traveling for nearly 15 hours I ended up making it just in time, and it was one of those sets where I just felt like I was on fire from the moment I played my first track. I can't thank you all enough for making my first Electric Forest one I'll never forget. This was my first Forest and I can easily say it's one of the best festivals in the world. Hope you guys enjoy this mix as much as I enjoyed playing it.

Lion, real name Michael Leon, has brought the mothafuckin' ruckus to the stages of Lightning in a Bottle, the dustiest storms at Burning Man, and The Do LaB at Coachella, earning nods from Claude VonStroke, Jamie Jones, and Green Velvet in the process. In doing so, Lion and his signature top hat have developed a boisterous voice in the House & Techno scene with strong tribal, hip-hop, and psychedelic elements.

But it all started with Wu-Tang and Daft Punk. Lion first found his way behind the decks as a thirteen year old kid, scratching underground hip-hop records religiously after school. At Coachella as a seventeen year old, he witnessed that legendary Daft Punk performance on the same night he tasted his first dose of psychedelics. The show had such a monumental impact on him, he gave up Hip-Hop and became a House DJ the very next day.

After honing his craft with weekly marathon DJ sessions at Sala Razzmatazz in Barcelona, Mikey was introduced to Burner culture at Lightning in a Bottle, 2011. It was at his first Burning Man in 2011 that he found a community calling and merged forces with his brother Porkchop, life long friends Marbs & Deep Jesus, and the inimitable Lee Reynolds to form The Desert Hearts Crew.

In November 2012, Desert Hearts began as a seedy, 200-person renegade gathering deep in the Mojave Desert. The intrepid crew barely survived a set of extreme weather conditions and unfortunate circumstances, but that first party sparked a fire. The entire point of that first Desert Hearts was to create as much love as humanly possible, and now that same gathering has evolved into the darling of the West Coast house and techno scene. The Bi-annual festival is capped at 3500 attendees in order to create the best possible vibe. Built upon beautiful people getting as weird as possible to deep and trippy house and techno, Desert Hearts has already achieved iconic status in the North American Festival Scene. 

Desert Hearts has given rise to a family of thousands and it's safe to call it a bonafide movement of love. And while Desert Hearts Records launched in 2014 as a totally-free record label, pushes the sonic aesthetic of the scene, the crew’s busy international calendar of bookings has the DH message spreading far and wide. At the center of it all is Mikey Lion, the dusty prince of desert hearts, a beacon of weird far and wide, and one of this generation’s most compelling agents of love.
