Silent Reflections

UlUltimae label founder Vincent Villuis aka AES Dana returns to one of his favourite emotional fields with (a) Period. and explores these times of forlornness and oblivion in a Cinematic Ambient 10 chapter story. 

As a creative observer, the French artist instantiates our endeavour to establish stillness, he steers the tale with a wide palette of sensitive chords, melting distant rumbles into bittersweet melodies and diaphanous pads thus leading the listener to a state of introspection and intimate isolationism. 

AES Dana's 9th album "(a) period. " stands as an elegy for unimaginable loss, and, as the composer says, "any resemblance with your personal experience is no coincidence".

Once again we present a mix album reflecting on the past year (and a bit), celebrating the 4th year of Ambientologist releases! Six unique releases between October 2022 and December 2023.

The year saw the gorgeous Venusia released on vinyl, Fionnlagh's sublime remix album, the first instalment of the Ambient Echoes series in partnership with Echoes Blue, and the stunning forest album from Henrik Meierkord & Ni!, with accompanying wooden photography box.

Far & Off, a collaborative creation by Vincent Villuis and Mihalis Aikaterinis, known as AES DANA and MIKTEK, has been fully rethought—remastered and graphically redesigned. Originally conceived from the essence of three EPs — Cut. | Alkaline | The Unexpected Hours — this album represents a poignant journey born from a period of extended detachment and isolation.

In today’s world, where life is saturated with incessant information, stimuli, and fragmented time, many feel overwhelmed. Some adjust, some collapse, and others, like the composers, feel the profound need to escape. Far & Off was not a spontaneous reaction but a slow culmination of necessity, not driven by any philosophical, spiritual, or religious belief, but as a natural response to the surrounding frenzy. This album is about seeking solitude, crossing into a different rhythm, and feeling the flow of time.

With Far & Off, the artists share this experience through keys and sounds, pads and patterns, glitches, and drums, aiming to create contrasted tales that highlight life’s paradoxes, from harshness to tranquility.

Ultimae proudly presents "OPIA," the second Various Artists compilation curated by Danish DJ Christian Samsara. This artfully assembled collection of ten tracks captures the numinous essence of cinematic ambient music, IDM, and electronica, enveloping listeners in atmospheres that transcend the everyday, leading them into a lush sonic landscape. OPIA ideates the ambiguous intensity of eye contact, which can extrapolate to the profound connection between the music and its audience.

With influences ranging across a wide palette of rhythms, patterns, and pads, OPIA invites exploration of the liminal spaces between sound and silence. Within its fugacious harmonies, the music's transient beauty emerges, where melodies dance on the edge of perception before gently fading, leaving an afterglow of serene awe.

Mihalis Aikaterinis is the name behind project Miktek, born in Mytilene, on the island of Lesvos in Greece. Miktek constantly explores various soundscapes, styles, and atmospheres; experimenting on a large scale in electronic music mostly in ambient, IDM and downtempo.
