"Yemenite Voices" is a selection of vinyl recordings (with the exception of 1 cassette track) of both legendary and rather obscure Yemenite artists. The tracks are in several Yemenite styles and range from early traditional recordings to more modern/orchestrated ones, spanning 4 decades (50s to 80s) in total; open your ears and hearts and you will hopefully enjoy most of them! 

It is worth noting that the reason for using Yemenite (يماني in Arabic) for the title, over Yemeni (يمني in Arabic), is that Yemeni generally refers to nationals of modern-day Yemen while Yemenite is the more inclusive term which includes anyone whose ancestors are from Yemen and identifies as being culturally Yemenite, regardless of where they were born or live.

Pour cette 53ème émission, nous vous invitons au bar avec une sélection uniquement composée de titres qui évoquent l'univers des cafés dans la chanson maghrébine (pochettes, thèmes). Les addictions (jeux, alcool) et leurs impacts sont racontés, tantôt de façons légères à travers des sketchs  tantôt de façons graves avec des morceaux de mise en garde. 
C'est tout cet univers qui vous est raconté en musique pour ce nouvel épisode de toukadime.

Obscure formation Les Jaguar’s de Casablanca beat the Shadows with a boss version of the surf classic “Gonzales”. The band consists of a French/Spanish guitar section and a Moroccan rhythm section, featuring the eccentric drummer/percussionist Jauk Armal, the “Okay Temiz from Casablanca”. “Gonzales” is originally recorded in 1962 and released by “La Voix Du Maghreb” in Morocco on an ultra collectible EP, which is now impossible to find.

This is a special March 9th upload, as tonight the Worm Moon will appear in the sky, It's the last full moon of winter which tidal pull lures out earthworms from their wintersleep attracting the strangest nightly birds and cat beasts to feast on them. The selection therefore is all exactly from the Tropic of Cancer,  the most northerly circle of latitude on Earth at which the sun can be directly overhead. All of this results in an eclectic mix, perfect for a full moon ceremony, depending on the apogee and perigee of your specific location. Expect psychedelic tracks from Egypt, Pakistan, India, Indonesia, the Mexican gulf and more.

This mix was firstly distributed around the same time in 2010, as part of the anual Waxidermy mix swap.

On The Eve Of The Next Full Moon

"Barbes Blues: Ce qu'ils n'ont pas pu nous prendre" une série podcast consacrée aux luttes politiques de l'immigration maghrébine dans les années 70. Le tout en musique.

Au commencement, il y a toujours Barbès , le premier quartier historique de l'immigration maghrébine et africaine à Paris. Le coeur battant. Mais il y avait aussi un jeune homme : Mokhtar. Nous l'avions quitté sur le point de partir pour la France. Le voici donc arrivé et déjà sur le chemin de l'usine. Cet épisode pose le premier décor français et les premiers pas dans l'immigration. On y retrouve la France toute fraichement soixante huitarde mais aussi les algériens, les usines Chausson, la chanteuse Noura, les premières désillusions, les premières colères et encore, et toujours, la politique et la lutte. Et surtout nous retrouvons la valise en cuir, pas encore usé, pour son premier voyage. 
C'est un évident hommage aux premiers pas, les plus difficiles sans doute dans la vie de ces hommes, et un clin d'oeil appuyé à "Mohamed prends ta valise" d'un certain Kateb Yacine autant qu'à la Rumeur, qui court et devance déjà tout.
