📡✨Catch me for an experimental set with 🀄️interpretation of Chachachá and a bit of mambo (Mandarin, Cantonese and Chinese instruments) from the 50s-70s records and movie soundtracks TODAY on PARALLEL WORLDS by @aniphoebe on @thelotradio❣️

🧡📚I decided to go on a little research journey for this experimental mix because even though I am all dedicated to the Afro-Latin genres and the social (salsa) dance scene, some parts of me are still curious about the music of my ethnic roots.

My parents actually met because of social dancing. My mom was a dance teacher in Shanghai and Beijing who teaches ChaCha (cha-cha-chá) and all kinds of social dances for upper class people to be able to dance in social dances. So I began to dig Chinese records of Chacha songs that my parents used to dance.

Exploring this music, I felt connected to my parents almost as if we are/were living in a Parallel World - at the same time, it relates back to the genres that I am passionate about and I get to explore the connection and influence in between Afro-Latin music and Chinese music.

🎋🀄️It was about exactly a year ago when I did my first what I called a CantonChá/ Canton mambo set; where I explored deeply into chinese interpretations of chachachás, a little bit of mambo & a sprinkle of some latin cover songs in both Cantonese & Mandarin now here is the 2nd part to this:)

It all started when my friend @aniphoebe asked me to do a guest mix for her show, I remember I was telling her my major influences on Afro-Latin music here in Hong Kong came from both my childhood where my mom was a social dance teacher & that’s how my parents met, also a unique working experience after university…all of these little stories inspired my little research into this rabbit hole.

Since it was my moms birthday month, I dedicate this set to her & my 婆婆 with records from the 50s-70s 🙇🏻‍♀️🧡
