Your favorite compilation series is back with more of the pummeling, moody techno you’ve come to expect from Second State – plus a few surprises.

On 'Trip Tales', Watergate resident The Reason Y and relative newcomer Tømas Sinn team up on a driving, hypnotic techno cut built for big rooms and post-peaktime blear. Dutch veteran Secret Cinema picks up the pace on 'Zürich', a deliciously unsettling blend of distorted stabs, tribal arpeggios and an atmosphere that is at once tense and mysterious. There’s a lightness and delicacy to Risa Taniguchi’s 'She': The Japanese producer layers hi-hats, rattles, a strong, lean, bassline and airy synths for a techno track compelling in its subtlety; a welcome contrast to harder beats. Swiss techno don Quenum goes for understated suspense on 'Fact Action', a slow-building mood piece that unfurls with the drama of a cinematic score and is perfect for between-banger breathers.

Prepare to take off into another dimension with Triathlon’s 'One Track Brain', a pulsing, futuristic trip shot with sci-fi lasers and springy bass: It’s a one-track ride to oblivion. The tinkling synths that welcome 'Tropical Heart' signal a different side of Second State: Three emerging Israeli talents, Jos & Eli and Magit Cacoon team up on this kinetic, warm track with a proggy core. The results are spiritual, ethereal and dynamic; a breath of fresh air. A walloping kick to introduce Dutchman Joran van Pol’s 'Derelict' pulls the comp back into hard, dark territory. Menacing echoes and fidgety synths create a prickling unease that, much like the kick, never lets up. 'Sleep Deprived Vibration' paints an evocative scene: flashing strobes, t-shirts wet with sweat, faces in various states of blissful disarray. You know exactly what Glaswegian producer Frazi.er is talking about here: the best kind of sleep deprivation, fueled by the electrical charge of tracks like this one.

Argentinian Eme Kulhnek lets 'Efforts' simmer like a perfectly cooked stew, gradually shifting out of subtle atmospherics and shrouded voices into faster and more curious terrain. Keening, circular bleeps and chanting conjure something primitive and magnetic. The Polish producers DUSS, meanwhile, head to the race track with 'Kevin the Second', a motoring, high octane thrill ride loaded with revving synths, snapping percussion and masterful pauses and drops. Greek duo Bleur & MB1 bring the listener on a cosmic trip anchored by thumping beats with 'Humans' which, contrary to its title, operates in a “parallel universe” involving time machines, robotic female voiceovers and an industrial yet melodic whirr and hum. The Italian producer Blackrachas made 'Five O’Clock' with the witching hour in mind. Burbling drones, tickling synths and monstrous mumblings combine in an ominous melange bound to hit the spot as the moon casts its last shadows.

Consistency is reassuring, but variety holds interest. On SUM 8, Second State offers the best of both worlds in what is arguably their most colorful and wide-ranging compilation to date.

June the 19th meets young, talented and living for the music - Shay De Castro to release on CODEX!

Raised by musicians in the US, she was taught to play the drums just at 4 years old. As a teenager she began experimenting with DJing and production, quickly becoming obsessed. Underground raves and commercial trance events helped to forge the thumping, malevolent soundscapes coming from her studio today. 

Her solo productions and collaboration efforts have won the support from many prolific fellow artists such Amelie Lens, Ilario Alicante and Enrico Sangiuliano. Thanks to this and the support of her dedicated fanbase, her tracks regularly climb through the top 100 techno charts on Beatport. 

Combine her artistry in the studio along with her high-octane energy behind the decks, and Shay is well on her way to becoming one of the most in-demand artists of the next generation.

D.R.N.D.Y is next up on Italian label Loose Records with two original tracks in the same hard-hitting techno style he has released on other labels such as Spektre's Respekt Recordings, Sasha Carassi's Phobiq and Durtysoxxx's Funk'n Deep. 

Alongside the two original tracks there is also a remix from Russian artist Optimuss who has featured his dark and driving style of techno on imprints including Noir's Noir Music, Christian Smith's Tronic, Coyu's Suara and Metodi Hristov's Set About.

The EP opens with the original mix of 'DNTSTP' and its pounding kick drum that underpins stabbing synths and a commanding vocal sample before the building tension of the brooding breakdown. 'Iridescent' is second of the originals, and its twisted euphoria and rattling percussion fuse with dark atmospherics to create a compelling dance floor experience.

Optimuss closes the release with his remix of 'DNTSTP' that is a more aggressive version with extra top-end percussion. This dark and intense remix swaps the originals lead synth for a pulsating alternative adding a frantic energy that erupts with devastating force.

28th August 2020 sees the established Rome-based techno label Riot Recordings launch sister label, RXC, with a monstrous 2-track ‘Solid’ / ‘Liquid’ EP by its prolific head honcho, Frankyeffe.

Despite this year’s unprecedented circumstances, the hard-working Italian producer, DJ and label owner has remained incredibly focused on perfecting his craft and delivering some of the world’s finest techno music.

This year alone has seen the talented Italian serve up releases on prominent labels such as Suara, Senso Sounds, JAM, Misfit Music plus his very own Riot Recordings which now boasts a sister label, RXC, courtesy of Frankyeffe’s latest offering.

‘Solid’ kicks the EP off delivering a no-nonsense techno workout featuring a pounding 4/4 beat, a squelchy acid line and an abundance of atmospheric textures. ‘Liquid’ is next up and concludes the release by continuing the musical mayhem by comprising of a huge distorted kick drum complemented by razor-sharp hi-hats and rolling percussion set to an array of chilling sound effects - this release certainly isn’t for the faint hearted!
