A showcase of sneak-peek samples from the debut Nate Kimball Orchestra album, Gaea. The album, directed, composed, & produced by Nate Kimball, features guitarist Jennifer Batten of Michael Jackson fame, and 19 of Las Vegas's A-List musicians. When Horace Silver passed away, I was deeply saddened despite the fact that I never had the opportunity to meet him personally. Horace, to me, felt like a grandfather who had helped guide me through my growth as a younger writer. I always felt a connection with his music. Like most of the masters, Horace was a pioneer, explorer, dreamer, and creator. His music spoke of the truths of the world, and invited us to learn from his wealth of knowledge and experiences. The symbiosis between content & purpose that Horace captured in his works heavily influenced my approach to music. When he passed, I decided to pay my own homage to his life by emulating one of my favorite works of his - 'Peace'. I used my own melody & harmony to try and write a piece that, like his, needed no form - a stand-alone "A". A short melody that shared, climaxed, and resolved (in other words, spoke) without wasting time. 'Pastorale in E Minor' is the result of my labor, and though it will never compare to the beauty of 'Peace', I do hope it conveys to some the immense joy I felt in first hearing Horace's work.

Gilead tells the tale of a long-forgotten city worlds away from ours. Although only empty ruins and broken artifacts remain, the empire of Gilead towered far above all others in the twelve kingdoms during its era of prosperity. Gileadean artists and philosophers constantly challenged the thresholds of perceived reality while their brilliant scientists were known in worlds beyond for creating great flying machines that could manipulate the fabric of time. This piece seeks to tell the legend of its people.

In Ancient Greek mythology, Gaea (pronounced “guy-uh“) arose from Chaos, the void preceding the birth of the universe, to bear the worldly gods responsible for the creation of Earth. The word Gaea itself means Earth, and in modern times, the name is associated with not only the mythological mother of our planet, but with its creation and existence. This work is meant to be an homage to our planet’s beauty. The interwoven textures & colors combined with the recognizable melody are meant to emulate the balance of natural paradoxes of our planet; the awe-inspiring complexity and the inexplicable simplicity.


Gaea

My 2nd Piece for Concert Band, entitled "Zenith's Flight", performed by the world-renowned TAD Wind Symphony and conducted by Maestro Tad Suzuki. The piece is meant to convey the grandeur and excitement of the launching of the airship "Zenith" in a world close to, but far removed, from our own.
