When I grow up I want to make music like Milkster...

Ahhh... Milkster... leading us on with that delicate intro then banging us in the gut with that kick.

Nice choice to keep that kick/snare thing front and center -- it works as the anchor for everything to work around.

Not sure if I should I be scared or sickened by the cover art but I like it!

Great sounds in this powerfull track. Like the play with the beats, bass and lead. Good luck in the challenge:)

SourKraut - How Did We Get Here ?

The cryosphere is frozen water in the form of snow, permanently frozen ground (permafrost), floating ice, and glaciers. If all this were to melt, sea levels would rise by 70 metres.

Created solely with a vintage Hohner Soprano Melodica played live into AUM on iPad and processed with various FX. No other instruments used.

This track was composed for the KVR One Synth Challenge 172 using the free software synth Lith. 

Definitely was inspired by Blade Runner and Clockwork Orange for this one. 

I used the random button liberally and then further tweaked the synth settings to finalize the patches.

25 instances of Lith synth were used in Ableton 10 to make all sounds and instruments. Stock effects used: EQ8 x 12; Utility x 13; Delay x 1; Autofilter x 1; Compressor x 3; Echo x 1; Reverb x 3; Saturator x 1; Limiter x 2.

Submission for One Synth Challenge #172 featuring "Lith" by Soda Devices.

I couldn't resist to join this round with another synthwave "banger" and use my own presets for this synth. I remember it was on OSC several years ago and I found it very good for drums and FM style sounds. It also has a really nice wave-shaping functions, like on the expensive commercial synths. It's kinda CPU hungry, but thanks to quality selection I can use it even on my old laptop (why the heck big companies cannot implement such a simple and genius feature?).

This track was produced for the OSC #176 using the very cool Wavetable synth by SocaLabs. 

This time I wanted to go with a downtempo track emulating sampled drum loops and a lo-fi ambiance.   All drum sounds were created from scratch and most synths too.

The Assignment: Turn someone’s slow-build beat into a finished track.

Step 1: In the previous project, people built beats that accrue slowly over time. Familiarize yourself with the instructions at disquiet.com/0619 5.

For this test I used 2 pieces from the previous compilation:
1) GoingModular - Disquieting Polyrhythm
2) fakeg3nius - [disquiet0619] Rhythm
 I was particularly fascinated by the loop, which with very few notes and chords manages to create this suspended sensation of strong melancholy and, at the same time, of hope. On the other hand, the response, dry and peremptory, of the phrasing and timbre of the drums. I added, at the beginning and end of the piece, some "disturbance" lines, always rhythmic.

Going Fake(disquiet620)

All music written, recorded and performed by Ryan J Raffa in Taipei, Taiwan during late 2021 on moog matriarch, modular, fender rhodes, snare drums, cymbals, percussion, op1, tape machines, and field recorders.

4 e and a is about the infinite spaces between. As a classically trained percussionist, Raffa sat in front of a metronome for the majority of their life. And in their mind, they would play with the spaces between those clicks. In especially challenging times, Ryan would attempt to expand and stretch those spaces into forever. Just existing in the between. This record is about these moments (and places) when we are living in those infinite spaces.

That time of intense musical focus was also Ryan's first introduction to an analog synthesizer. As a teenager, their drum teacher was Herb Flower, an incredible human with light beams of creative energy pouring out of him and his musical family at all times. A parent of another student of Mr. Flower’s was an electrical engineer who had recently been laid off during large cutbacks at Carrier, one of the major employers at that time in Syracuse where Raffa grew up. This parent, with their newly acquired free time, hand-built a drum machine, housed in a large wooden cabinet with 8 or so unmarked knobs, and they gave this synthesizer to Mr. Flower. The sound from that machine was glorious. And Mr. Flower, their drum teacher, would turn a few knobs, make a pattern and have me play along with it during rehearsal. These moments were such a gift, and I know those moments are still reverberating today. Raffa thinks about that time of experimentation, of exploration, of shared love of sound and music as a place that they can go to, a place we can all go to, whenever we choose.
