BNJMN presents Body Reflections Pt.2 - the second step in his new, subdued and intricate sonic direction.

The EP opens with “Undulations”, an emotional number on which delayed rhythmic elements gradually introduce minor chords. “Lyra” is a slow burning march, offset with an offbeat clap, giving the track a stron sense of decay and disorder. 

On the flip, "Earth Shock” is an atmosphere laden piece starting with a sombre, slow melody that gets increasingly drowned out by harsh, industrial textures. The piece eventually reaches power electronics territory before returning to its onset. 

“Severance” is a tense affair. Layered synths meet stuttered kicks. Metallic stabs come puncturing and piercing rimshots provide rhythmic clarity. The EP closes with the fluttering and delightfully ghastly "Ghost Faction". 

Body Reflections Pt.2 is deeply illustrative of BNJMN’s ability for creating nuanced and delicately balanced layers, and a culmination of his vast experience.

On the fourth disc the a-side is fully covered with the second appearance of Amsterdam producer KAAP. Known for his long live jams on his own imprint Working Titles he does the same right here. 'Phisiks', over 14 minutes long is a warm and dubby melodic builder that perfectly fits in the ÆX catalogue. On the b-side there's Ocke W again with a slamming percussive jam. The EP finishes with Taupe who is following up his track on the third chapter, here again an energetic Detroit-esque techno trip.

Serena Butler returns to the fore with an EP for Stroboscopic Artefacts. “We Want Neither Clean Hands Nor Beautiful Souls” is a four track recording of Butler’s personal juncture with the Queerverse and his engagement in queer politics, an elaboration on the alternate freedoms and minimal politics of alienation introduced with her 2016 release on Eerie. By bringing her mission of inclusion and diversity to Lucy’s Berlin based imprint S>H/E has found a kindred spirit in the pursuit of, what SA describes as, “an incessant accretion of new ideas and new formal elements that must transcend any self-limiting expectations of genres or cliques”. This release embodies the shared revere that Butler and SA have for the subversive power of techno; or, as Butler says, “the explicit, organized effort to repurpose technologies for progressive gender political ends”.

The EP’s path begins with the opener “If Nature Is Unjust, Change Nature”, a shadowy crescendo of whispered rhythms and minimal-synth leitmotivs from alt-clones of Rrose and Second Woman grafted memories. “Globular Hymen” is the club supernova of the lot; an interstellar blizzard of layered arpeggios, which hit like the wrath of a pantheon of angry goddesses. “Science is not an expression but a suspension of gender” lays on the feel of afterlife, a dubbed-out lullaby between lo-fi drums and subtle interference patterns of noise. This is the sound of Butler getting between you and your ears; reminding you to step back from certainty and imperative judgments. Last but not least, “And with fire came disparity” unleashes a vocal swarm of declaration and rebellion. Despite the straight-forward title, this is a true Demdikesterian mutant-techno stepper, with neither clean words nor a beautiful soul.

Musically involved in techno and atmospheric sounds, Mimetic is the reflection of Jérome Soudan’s mind, complex and fascinating. This is a hyperactive musician, often described as an essential piece of the european underground music scene. He first studied piano at conservatory level, leading him to explore and become interested in clarinet, orchestral percussion, drumming and later electronic drumming. Once he finished his musical diploma, Jérôme moved from Lyon to Paris in 1994 and joined Les Tétines Noires. He soon became involved in another project: Von Magnet, where he quickly established himself within the band, due to his drumming talent, as well as his natural skills as a composer. During four years, he lived in Berlin, from 1996 to 2000 while playing and writing in Art Zoyd, he created his own musical project: Mimetic. He is now living in Geneva, working as artistic director of Electron Festival, Présences Electroniques Genève and Headfun.
His first album as Mimetic named ‘Overrated’, received good reviews from the electronic music movement. Far from being stuck on one idea or genre, Mimetic writes for contemporary dance artists (Carol Brown, Jan Linkens, Lionel Hoche), creates the soundtracks of underground movies by director Lech Kowalsky (D.O.A, East in Paradise…). Specific work that he is still involved in currently, he is also collaborating with Sigmasix on a audiovisual installation experiencing the sound in octophony: Vertical Surround.
So far, Mimetic has released 9 albums, many various digipacks, DVDs and also a book. His last album “Where We Will Never Go”, includes collaborations with Mika Vainio, Mira Calix, Niveau Zero and Samael and was remixed by Kangding Ray and Paul Kendall ( NIN, Depeche Mode ).
Not only a successful producer and live artist, Mimetic is a brillant DJ, mixing with ease different styles such as bass music, techno and electronica. He aleady shared the stage with : Surgeon, Ellen Allien, Jeff Mills, Charlotte De Witte, Paula Temple, Nina Kraviz, Robert Hood, Leftfield, Jon Hopkins, Daniel Avery, Rodhad, Max Cooper, Chris Liebing, Slam, Optimo, Agoria, Pantha du Prince, Miss Kittin, Speedy J, The Hacker, Oxia, Sam Paganini, Marcel Fengler, Alan Fitzpatrick, Extrawelt, Roman Flügel, Paco Osuna, Modeselektor, Helena Hauff,….
