SML(RU) - Rhythmical Movement 106 [October 2023]

There is still so much more to see and do at this festival.  You and your friends had been dancing up a storm.  Your bodies heated with the movement and rhythms.  You all gather at the front of the tent to make your way out.  The destination?  To the ice sculptures!  Bracing for impact, the tent flaps fly open and you are greeted with a stinging chill and a gust of cold air that tosses your hair about and puts a glow to your skin.  With smiles on your faces and the chilled rush of the wind that settles in, you bask in the festivals delights and wonders.  The ice sculptures, so intricate and detailed, stand proudly in the sunny afternoon, sparkling radiantly.  That chilled rush was worth these sights and the Drum and Bass beats that fill your ears create a tapestry of sound as the festival continues.

Walking among the ice sculptures, the chilled rush subsides.
the sun glimmers letting the ice art sparkle in the light from above.  You notice from the sky gentle flakes of snow flutter down and land on your jacket.  The intricate snowflakes creating art on your sleeves.  The snow fall dances softly swirling around you, creating a wonderland of winter.  You smile as you and your friends head towards the ice rink.  You all have brought your skates.  What luck!  This is the moment that you feel the effortless motion glide you across the ice.  With a push of your feet you begin to enjoy.  The music fills your ears as the festival is still underway.  The melodic gentle rhythms keep you floating and you feel an organic natural flow to your movements.  You and your friends are now skating to the Organic House that play over the speakers at the rink.

Frosted Festival - Set 4 - Gliding On Ice - Organic House

Since TONE dropped his debut album last year ‘So I Can See You’ on Rhythm Section INTL to prominent acclaim, he has entasked his musical community to remix the album - namely members of the CURL collective. Formed in 2016 by Micachu, Coby Sey, and Brother May, they have performed together and released compilations from the likes of Lol K, Bianca Scout, Raisa K and others, who all feature on the remix album. As the version LP has taken fruition, Tone has played SXSW, Cafe OTO and 180 Strand, and simultaneously continuing his journey as a hard-working family man. 

TONE’s debut was filled with an ariose spoken singing style, post-punk tones and a back-to-basics production style courtesy of his 8-track tape machine - perfect elements for any remixer. With no specific brief, artists indulged in their specific visions. Trevor Jackson’s industrial dub aesthetic is brought to ‘Move Now’, his first remix since working for deftones’ ‘White Pony’ deluxe reissue in 2020. Stay Lo contributes a tribute to the early 10s ‘dreamstep’ with tik-tok friendly ‘In & Out’ remix and meditative chug from ‘So I Can See You Pt. 2’ by Coby Sey and Tone himself. 

The ‘So I Can See You’ LP represented cause and effect between his relationship with his own creativity and the emergence of his daughter, from pregnancy and beyond, and thus the remix LP explores the wider sonic variety of Tone and his musical compatriots.

Your eyes go wide and looks of concern cross each others faces.  "What is that?", you think.  Someone yells, "Avalanche!?".  No, it can't be!  Not at this festival?! You all get up and begin to prepare to take shelter, but you notice no one else is running?  Curious your group begins to scan around and just around the corner you see a group of people  dancing and jumping with energy!  It was the bass all along?!  With sighs of relief you know your next stop at this frozen playground!  Some bass house is what the doctor ordered to shake things up!  And with that your group begins to join the fury of dancers and music as the festival continues on!
