For this @DarkScienceElectro premiere, we check in with @generali_minerali on Undersound Recordings

For the next release on the label, @undersoundlondon reaches to the Caucasian country of Georgia with this electro 4-tracker from Generali Minerali. The up-and-coming artist is the booker and sound engineer at the Drama Bar in Tbilisi. He opens the EP with two darker jams with swirly 303 lines on steady 808 rhythms. Influences from the late Microlith permeate these tracks, as the artist mentions him as one of his biggest inspirations. The B-side slows the tempo down with '808 Dream' where delayed melancholic melodies are intertwined with rough saw waves. Finally, “Evening Mood” offers the perfect mood for a warm-up or after-party with its downtempo swing and drums.

Berlin producer, Random Alias, returns with a post-lockdown reflection that includes dance-floor fillers and sonic journeys in electro, techno and acid.

BOM002 explores the dichotomy of human existence that is monotonous conformity and search for freedom. This latest release from Random Alias, makes you want to move just as much as take a moment for reflection. With each track we’re presented with the iconic red pill/blue pill concept: Remain slaves to the control and automation of modern society? Or strive for freedom as we define it ourselves?

Automat opens side A with its smouldering bassline that at times becomes warped as the 5 minutes unfold. A dreamy synth line enters like a fragmented, existential thought. The kind that wakes you up in the dead of night or while you’re in the middle of a shower. The remix from iconic electro producer, DJ Overdose, takes the original to a darker place with a slower, aggressive synth. It’s a ‘Freakfest’ as Overdose defines it.

Side B starts with Nu Funk and its representation of simple efficiency. The track keeps it tight while retaining the free-spiritedness of funk. Its warm sounds take a more old school approach and are a call to retain an easier life free from fame, money and power to the single individual. While Night Drive closes the release with a rolling bass and pads that drive a progressive sound. At its core, the record takes the listener on a trip exploring sounds and styles and the timeless notion that change is the outcome of reflection.

Not many positives have come from COVID-19 but Lauren finally taking the plunge into mixing has been a definite plus for everyone, whether you know it yet or not.

Now Glasgow-based but originally from Dundee, we have partied with her long before Hilltown Disco days.  From Thursday-Sunday sessions at our beloved home of the Reading Rooms, to infamous Commercial Street parties, Hazra has always had the ear for killer tunes and has really just always got it - which can be felt in this mix.

The set was recorded mid-isolation when she had COVID which makes the result even more impressive.  A mix for the dancers and for the nights of the future.

Isolated Material - Mind Controlled Rectifier showcase vol. 1 at HÖR BERLIN

Carl Finlow has been a prominent name in UK electro since the mid-90s, releasing music at an astonishing rate under a variety of monikers. Silicon Scally defines his most strictly electro-oriented project, reflective of the Kraftwerk era and the emerging electro-scene, with releases on respected labels such as Cultivated Electronics, CPU and of course 20/20 Vision, with music from a variety of Carl’s monikers being amongst the labels earliest releases. 

‘Crushed’ is a sought after album project originally self-released on Finlow’s Bandcamp during the 2020 lockdown. We felt the release was to important to be overlooked without a much deserved run of vinyl, so have pressed a limited run of records featuring futuristic electro highlights and the best unreleased cuts. 

‘Proton Mass’ kicks things off with perfectly crafted robotic funk, solid mechanical breaks and mind bending glitches, setting the landscape for a journey into the abyss with Silicon Scally unshakeably at the helm. ‘Centronix’ follows up with razor-sharp rocking beats, squelchy bass and jarring grooves as if designed for high pace no nonsense club sets from the likes of DJ Stingray or Helena Hauff. 

On the flip side ‘Axiom’ takes us deeper into the void with dark basslines, complex drums and unapologetically disorientating frequencies. A track that makes us question if Finlow has transcend to a future state where he is more machine than man, sending psychoactive messages in the form of killer electro cuts. 

‘Cascade Lasers’ wraps up this epic dose of electro with interstellar energy, driving things home with deep bass wobbles, high octane breaks, wrapped grooves and tormenting yet playful synth licks. Yet another release that has us convinced the late great Andrew Weatherall was indeed correct!
