Riding on a wave of hype that has carried Billain from Bad Taste Recordings and UKF, through into the rosters of Eatbrain and Critical Music with forthcoming EPs for both, as well as an unannounced but huge remix project; Billain brings a vision in film form of what's to come in the next months. This film is the first part of a trilogy showcasing his deep sound design skills and complex aesthetic, with an underlying theme reflecting upon the nature of artificial intelligence and the destined moment of ‘Singularity’ that we have to look forward to as a result of our surge forward into ever more complex technology. 

In the words of Billain himself – 

“If you consider Moore's law, corporate structures, overpopulation and consumerism; the contradictory perfections of our own imperfections can begin to twist the frontal lobe into unresolvable dark places, where Pinnochio from the children’s fairy tale and David from Kubrik’s final work ‘AI’ both went through in their own interpretation of hell. Some render fairy tale endings for children and others choose the blockbuster income adventure. Humanity’s love of illusions and self-deception leaves the real questions under the carpet - the questions to which answers have always been pushed into the avant garde and contemporary pigeon holes in which human nature loves to process. Drum & bass stalwarts Black Sun Empire are to follow up a trio of recent EPs from The Upbeats, Neonlight and Pythius with the release of ‘Until The World Ends’ - a five-track, collaborative EP with NZ duo State Of Mind. Lead single ‘Ego’ will be released on 7th December via their genre-defining Blackout imprint, drawing an end to a prolific 2014 for the label. 

‘Ego’ immediately sets the tone for the rest of the EP, with growling bass lines and punchy synth-stabs underpining dark, techy atmospherics and vocal loops. Skittering melodics then give way to signature frenetic beats and firing drums to round off proceedings in style.

Blackout have built a reputation for curating their own brand of dark, neurofunk-inspired drum & bass over the past 12 months and this collaboration with long-term collaborators State Of Mind - who released their latest album ‘Eat The Rich’ via Blackout earlier this year - feeds into the hype already surrounding the label moving into 2015.

Returning for our first release of 2015, we proudly to welcome Gamma back to Dispatch for his first Dispatch EP as a solo artist.

Having previously released on the label as part of the Spinline trio, Gamma brought the incredible “If U Go Away” to our Transit 2 compilation album and we knew it was only a matter of time before he would be back for a full release.

Taking us into the New Year, the Zion EP is comprised of five tracks that delve deep into the senses, remaining pensive, yet always hard hitting.

Title track ‘Zion’ sets the scene dramatically, with half time beats shuffling over subterranean low ends. Collaborating with Dispatch favourite Hydro, ‘3 Dayz’ follows on, raising the energy levels with suave overlapping bass grooves.

‘Streetheadz’ comes next, a percussive assault on the dancefloor, with strong support so far. ‘Midnight Heat’ contrasts the elements expertly, with sultry pads and soft vocals met by dark, growling mids and sharp stepping drum work.

‘Empathy Control’ closes the EP with a slice of pure robotic funk, with a refined bassline cutting below jittering mechanic entities. Key support on this release comes from the likes of Toddla T (on BBC Radio 1), Icicle, Kasra, DLR & Safire.

Following a string of successful label releases in a short period of time, DLR is ready to unleash his debut solo album on Dispatch Recordings, entitled ‘Seeing Sounds’.

Having previously collaborated with Octane on the ‘Method In The Madness’ album, DLR has quickly established his own signature sound; an instantly recognizable groove mischievously poking through the mix, terrorizing dancefloors in a truly unique way.

As an album concept, ‘Seeing Sounds’ is DLR’s exploration into sound design and how the manipulation of organic elements and subtle soundscapes can create imagery within the music; to set the scene and immerse the listener up to a cinematic level.

Commencing this quest from abstract beginnings, DLR investigates over a selection of different formats and styles, ranging from the tantalizing neck snapper “Charlie Brown” to the sinister breakbeat nonchalance of “I Found Out”.

Inviting external influences to the fold; specially selected guests join the project to explore further, including Total Science, creating the cataclysmic “Control The Sound”, Hydro, the ambient chords and emotive vocal sample in ‘Empyreal” and partner in crime Break, resulting in the mighty, yet constrained “Human Error”.

Since Resident Advisor’s initial announcement, the album has garnered support from all corners, including Noisia, Friction (numerous Radio 1 plays), Goldie, Calyx & Teebee and The Upbeats, with Mixmag selecting it as their February ‘Album of the Month’. The early support from Friction on his BBC Radio 1 show also led to a special invite where DLR dropped an album mix in for live broadcast on the 13th of January.

With an innate understanding of the technology available and a shrewd willingness to exploit it, ‘Seeing Sounds’ is the culmination of DLR’s very best work to date.
