UNDER THE CVRS: "Perfect Day"(Lou Reed)

With releases on Crosstown Rebels, Hot Creations and BPitch Control, it's safe to say Venezuelan-originating, Barcelona-based duo Fur Coat are backed by some real key players.

Last year's 'There's No Time' EP on Jamie Jones and Lee Foss' HC was a proper smash, with the title track a certainty to mess with your mind. That followed the 'U Turn' EP on Damian Lazarus' Crosstown, a tasty four-tracker of sizzling grooves.

Soon they make their debut for Balance, mixing the 'Balance presents Fur Coat' compilation featuring cuts by DJ Koze, Francesca Lombardo, Roman Flügel and a couple from themselves.

London based house imprint Trelik presents OCH who under this anonym initially stepped up for PAL SL and has since bagged winners on Autoreply, Stuga Musik and soon SECT. With a compulsive passion for the dying art of crate-digging combined with a love for modern synthesis techniques he manages to put together a 12” that could easily be described as psychedelic Chicago. Whalesong is a pulsating floor work-out which references the US greats whilst building an emotive sub-aqua soundscape. Blind is The Wind follows with a sneaky chord driven spoken interlude which creates an air of tension before climaxing into Last Chance Saloon. This is deep yet driving showcasing haunting vocals with lush chords alongside the original principles of house music and plenty of bass. Mastered by Rashad at D & M.

Internationally recognized visual artist Charlie White and Mercury-nominated musician and producer Boom Bip collaborate on Music For Sleeping Children. 

Magical, uncomfortable, and original, Music for Sleeping Children is a PUBLIC album, artwork, and archive that will be offered for free in its entirety at musicforsleepingchildren.com

Stemming from White's long-term study of the representation of American adolescence, the project was born from the relationship forged during White and Hollon’s 2009 collaboration on "We Like to Shop,"  a simple clap-along song from White's experimental cartoon OMG BFF LOL that Hollon converted into a throbbing club track for the work's US premier at the Aldrich Museum. From there, White and Hollon set out to realize a far more ambitious project conceived by White as the marriage of in-depth teen interviews with pop, electronica, house, and experimental composition. 

THE MUSIC: 
Working in tandem, White and Hollon transformed immersive interviews with teen girls into carefully designed narrative dance tracks. Each track of Music for Sleeping Children captures the essence of a different teen girls, from “Baylee,” a gregarious twelve-year-old who is not into boys—YET; to “Mel and Mik,” fifteen- and sixteen-year-old BFF’s who are proud of being weird; to “Georgia,” a super-confident sixteen-year-old who is the most popular girl in school. 

THE ART:
White’s Music for Sleeping Children photographs are a selection from his CYRILLA STROTHERS PROJECT, 2004–2006—an intensive two-year study of an American teen girl living in the isolated suburbs of southern California. The project generated over eleven thousand images, which White edited down to an archive of 50 photographs to be published in 2024, twenty years after the project began. However, for MFSC he will present 12 of these works to complement the album’s aesthetic and cultural tone.
Lex Records will release a limited edition version this fall with that will include a print from the CYRILLA STROTHERS PROJECT, and more. Stay tuned for upcoming videos and launch events.
