Happy Monday to all of those who celebrate Mondays.  Over here at Phantom Laboratories West, we celebrate Monday by sharing a Rethink Remake Remix of a track that originally dropped on Facebook from 2023-2024.  The RRR mixes not only bring these tracks up to the standards and restrictions placed on tracks that are allowed to be posted here on SoundCloud, but it gives me the chance to revisit (a 4th R???) tracks that were made before I learned more and improved my production and songwriting skills.  

If you want to check out the original version, that comes complete with a full music video (featuring clips from Ub Iwerks' Fun Time in Balloon Land animated classic--it is still there on Facebook for you to discover--you'll want to go to the Interbay music project page and look for Experiment 18 in the videos section.  

I'm not sure what I was thinking when I created this track originally--surprisingly, my brain was not all hopped up on goofballs (unless I had a dental appointment that same day--which is possible, and if so, then that explains how weird this track is.)  

Despite my love of the movie Blue Velvet, the respiration sounds are not a tribute to Frank Booth.  Nor are they a reference to the nitrous oxide abuse that marked the early years of the rave scene (however cheesy it might be, I still love "Balloony" by L.A. Style--but this wasn't inspired by that.)  

It wasn't even inspired by Ub Iwerks' animated film--though finding that in the public domain was a delight, when I made the video for this.  

Nope--this was just a house song...with some odd sound design choices, and the whiplash that comes from early Interbay tracks' stunt pilot-like ability to completely change direction, seemingly randomly (something I know that I'm still guilty of...oh, neurodivergent demand for novelty, you have much to answer for...)  

For this RRR mix, I already had the chopped breathing vocal element--but I still added a couple lines of spoken dialogue to give the hint of structure.  I didn't try to shove a traditional song template on this, but I did try to better define why things happen in the song.  Most of my remix was, in fact, remixing this track.  Finding space in the stereo field, boosting certain sounds so they fit into the mix better, generally stripping some mud out of the original mix.  

I'm so happy that a few more people will get to check out this track--it seemed to be a favorite of the early Interbay tracks on Facebook.  I think it is fun.  I think it's got a good beat and you can dance to it.  I think if you dance to it, you'll dance to it HARD.  And I think that if you dance to this hard, you might need some suppleental oxygen...and NOW the whole thing makes sense!!!  ;)
