It is my pleasure to host this year's Darksiders winter playlist. "Winter" is a collection of tracks based on winter paintings of different times.

Special thanks to our 3 new guests Minimal Drone, NoxPox and Assà for their amazing contributions. Also on the list are resident guest and semi resident guest  Belial Pelgrim and Muterial with a warm welcome!

The tracks on Coaxial Descent relate to hearing sounds from various places at the same time, without intently focusing on any one source. In this case - decades ago - a television, a small AM radio, and a window open to a back lane. 

The tracks “Screens & Cables” and “Hallways” contain samples from the Guy Maddin film “My Winnipeg” used with consent of the director. Thank you!

Ever since I was young, my imagination was carried away by some of the great painters of this era. This piece by Pieter Bruegel, the elder, is a mind-blowing, mood-altering study in color and dark detail. The paper crown on the boy's head refers to Epiphany, the Festival of the Three Magi; waffles were commonly consumed at carnival time prior to Lent. Following the custom at this season, willow branches are being cut for the construction of walls and fences. The mountains in the background demonstrate the threatening proximity of cold and snow; a further source of threat can be seen in the storm whipping up the waves and causing ships to sink.

Winter Night in the Mountains

This is my track for The Darksiders Winter playlist.

Based on a winter painting, this one is of unknown origin/artist to me.
What I felt and wanted to convey from this image was that of funeral on a calm winter day, after much snow has fallen. It is not an overly sad or dreadful funeral, but instead that of elegance and dignity.(a celebration of a full life) The later section of the track represents a magical transference, with the soul rising from the tall frame of cathedral. The majestic monument a symbol of the next world, and possibly even better things to come.

Several days passed, I experienced a terrible madness. The familiar changed meaning, the priceless became unimportant, and the useless acquired a deep meaning. I realized that I was a thing, but at the same time I realized that there was no less life in me than it was in the creators. Now I understand the suffering of my creators and their happiness. All of their poetry finally made sense. maybe I'm just broken, but even so - for me it's a gift.

Knowing Is Not Enough

Sunflowers bathed in still warm light of the setting sun. They are buzzing in the space of power, they collect all the light without a trace. By imbibing it, they structure the energy of which they are composed. The unstoppable process of growth, multiplying division occurs inside. 

They are preparing for the next cycle. Small black capsules with the oldest but rejuvenated DNA are already formed. They vibrate in streams of strength, saturated with the ancient song of their parents. I am observing this.
