FBN008 strikes with a storm of thunderous electro, techno and breakbeat grooves, as Hedchef searches for ‘A Disappeared Regime Of Materiality’.

Opener ‘Immersion (Requires A Certain Stillness)’ is a true statement of intent, as unsettling, half-heard whispers and layers of low-frequency power contort over a no-nonsense electro framework. Continuing the theme, ‘Guillotine Clause’ brings razor-sharp synths to cut through a tense atmosphere, before flipping the script for a techno-charged second half to throw the dancefloor off-balance.

Changing the tone for the third cut, Hedchef implores you to ‘Dissolve Yourself’ in 2-step swing and high-tech mechanical textures, before ‘Intersequence’ closes off the proceedings with relentless four-to-the-floor thump and stop-start interplay between euphoric stabs and resonant electro squelch.

For the remixes, we first welcome top-tier rave revivalists Denham Audio to the label. Their breakbeat twist on ‘Immersion…’ shows off their unmatchable, frenetic UK hardcore stylings with a kick drum to knock the wind out of your chest. To wrap things up, frighteningly talented low-end scientist Tom Place makes a return to FBN with his reimagining of ‘Guillotine Clause’. Injected with gaunt atmospheres and a moody bass rumble, the track finds itself in dark, paranoid territory.

Circuit Grooves announce Dance Dance Dance, the latest release from Slow Assembly. Set to drop on Friday, December 6, 2024 - this two-track release highlights the artists’ knack for crafting grooves that sit at the crossroads of Electro breaks and funky ethereal Acid House. As with previous records he presents a fresh take on both genres with an ear for rhythm and texture. "Dance Dance Dance" brings a pulsating energy, atmospheric pads hint at acid-tinged bass that float in and out of the tracks momentum, capturing a vibe both nostalgic and distinctly off the beaten track.

Adding a unique twist, the release includes a remix by London’s rising talent Void Complet, an artist whose distinctive sound has quickly garnered attention in underground circles. Minimal Wave is honored to present a reissue of Jyl‘s self-titled full-length album from 1984, originally released on Klaus Schulze’s Inteam label. Born and raised in California, Jyl travelled to Europe in her twenties to dance and met several talented and like-minded collaborators along the way. She ended up in Germany, and worked with Ingo Werner, Angela Werner, and Klaus Schulze, on what would become one of the most important and forward thinking electronic albums of the time. Shortly after its release, the song “Computer Love” became a mini-hit along with the album’s opening track “Mechanic Ballerina”. The lyrics of “Silicon Valley” and “Computer Generation” are reflective of the times and have become even more relevant now, 36 years later. The production and song arrangement on the album is immaculate. The synthesizers, drum programming and vocal contributions complement Jyl’s voice perfectly. The album contains an incredible depth beyond a regular dance album likely due to the spirit of the people behind it – the list of contributors add to its significance and near-mythological mystery.

After years of searching to no avail, the master tapes were finally located and we were able to remaster them for the best possible audio result. The record is pressed on black 180 gram vinyl and comes housed in a glossy heavyweight sleeve. The sleeve features an updated version of the original artwork, and is accompanied by a 12 page LP-sized booklet, featuring large scale portraits of Jyl from the time, an interview (thank you, Anders Larsson), and all of Jyl’s previously unpublished lyrics. Release date: September 8th, 2020.
