In the mid 90s in a small granny flat in a then rural Wicklow village a teenage producer kept himself busy making cassette tapes full of beats on his trusty s3000 sampler and an early wooden cased PC running Cubase v1. A world of music later comes this 8 track release for t-woc's home county label Remotetown. Consisting of live set extracts, MPC workouts and straight from desk to tape jams, this collection of tracks are a connection to those days of constant experimentation with limited gear and endless imagination playing out like the flailing limbs seen through a strobe at a slow motion rave.

Winter evening. You lie in your bed beneath an absurdly heavy blanket. The TV is on in the next room — Jose Ignacio and Laura seem to be flirting. Your eye itches, but your hands feel so enormous that you're afraid to move them. The kettle loudly whistles in the kitchen. You have a fever, buddy. Your ears, cheeks, and even your lips feel are «on fire». Your mom will enter the room soon with a large cup of tea with lemon and honey in her hand. She'll touch your forehead with her cold palm. And she’ll say that you definitely won't go to school tomorrow. You'll try to smile in response, but it will only come out as the grimace of a dying martyr. Of course, at some point, you'll completely forget about all of this. And then, by pure chance, you'll listen to the mix by Kom Kom for 5/8: radio, start nodding your head to the rhythm, and recall that feverish evening in bed with an inexplicable but deeply pleasant nostalgia.

Knotpop is a revelatory lost album of deviant new wave from San Fransisco duo Ixna. Like Brian Eno and The Flying Lizards, the album is a sideways and inverted take on pop music. Jay Cloidt and Marina La Palma were students of David Behrman and Robert Ashley at Mills College, inspired by their infamously irreverent faculty to nudge the avant-garde out of its stuffy tweed and into something more exciting, something clad in denim & leather. Recorded at the Center For Contemporary Music at Mills in 1981, the album combines Cloidt's studio wizardry, sampling abilities and vibrant bass with La Palma’s expressive vocals, and love of made-up and invented languages (Esperanto). Ixna only released one 7" during that time, featuring two songs from this unrealized album, which became sought after over the decades. The discovery of Knotpop will feel like manna from heaven for previous fans, and a welcome addition to the cannon of avant-inverted-pop ur-classics by Suicide, impLOG, Naffi, General Strike, Thick Pigeon and UnknownMix. Concentric Circles is honoured to present Knotpop to the world for the first time. Mastered from the original reels, DMM pressing.

Ixna - Fun Fun Fun (CC-002)

Minimal Wave is proud to present an LP of 6 songs by cult U.K. project Scenes de la Bohème, entitled ‘Standing in the Rain’. Scenes de la Bohème was formed by Anthony Waites in London, in 1981 with an innate desire to create poetic, subversive pop music. Without any intention of ever signing to a record label, he self-released one untitled 7” single in 1982, an edition of 150 copies, with money funded to him by his parents for his 21st birthday. He often used borrowed synthesizers to record his music in various bedroom studios and friends’ houses supplemented by his beloved cherry red Hagstrom guitar. The two songs that he released were ‘Zara’, an earworm of a pop song about a longed for girl standing in the rain, and ‘The Tale of The Butterfly’. Unlike many other bands of the time, he never sent the single or his demos to John Peel, The NME, Beggars Banquet, nor Rough Trade and so it was lost to obscurity until a few record collectors ‘discovered’ it some 15 years ago. Scenes de la Bohème’s Untitled 7” single continues to fetch exorbitant prices in collectors’ circles so we are especially happy to be able to make this release available in the form of a newly mastered mini LP, which includes four unreleased tracks that Waites had recorded at the time. The LP is pressed on 180 gram vinyl, as a limited edition of 600 (300 black and 300 transparent yellow), and features beautifully restored images of Waites and his main partner in crime, Seamus Fitzsimmons. The inner sleeve holds Waites’ story, his musical inspirations and explorations as an Irish youth growing up in London in the early 1980s and discovering the avant-garde. Release date is April 23rd. Vienna's young youngster Paul and Leonard are starting the Westbahn series with a 7 inches - Open your mind wild between "!" and "?" - two punctuation marks that are focusing on underlining the senses of the language.

The 7’’ record containing two tracks (? + !) comes with an extra 300g silk print of a drawing by Leonard. Both tracks were mixed by Sam Irl in Vienna and Mastered by Wouter Brandenburg in Amsterdam.
