I am so excited to finally start sharing music from the eight-or-so tracks on the 'Young, Loved, Hated & Broke' EP with you guys. "One Day" is a song that I've been playing toward the end of my shows over the past few months, and it's gotten an amazing response from the crowds. The original song that is sampled is by Israeli singer-songwriter Asaf Avidan. It became popular overseas last year when German producer Wankelmut turned the folk song into a house hit, but it hasn't really reached the masses in the U.S. Upon discovering that remix, I became a huge fan of the song and its melody, lyrics and message. I had it on repeat for days. I attempted to rap over the house version, but the tempo was off. After sending it to Dave Cappa, we both quickly understood what we needed to do. The result is a track that blends hip-hop, trap, EDM and folk music together. We like to call it "Folk-Trap." People who have been following my career know that I pride myself on writing and releasing music that doesn't adhere to genre labels. I love folk music, I love rap music. Emotional Rescue presents a Remix EP of modern updates to Jaki & John's timeless music.   Featuring reworks from the remastered tapes by Al Usher and Apophenia, these remixes offer the perfect summer soundtrack, bringing the original spirit of the Balearics to the couple's spiritual folk-soul-jazz melting pot.

This brings the project full circle as it was Al who got the whole LP reissue rolling with a then unauthorised edit of Stay Cool a few years ago. Although unreleased the edit made it’s way to our ears and on hearing it that made putting the album out one of the first goals on setting up the label.

Initially planned as just a release of the edit, Al - with long term production partner Ewan Pearson on desk duties - turn in totally new and uplifting remix and dub of Stay Cool that will go down well on boat parties across the Med this summer. Upon hearing the unreleased live solo vocal from Jaki that is This Time, Al then asked if he could also do a remix and who are we to say no, with what is possibly the best cut of the release. Treating Jaki’s soul-tinged acapella with the utmost respect to let it’s wonder shine before taking the track deep down in to the Berlin night for the finish.

Finally we turn to the Times Dub edit from Aphophenia. Released as a dub of International Times on the frightenly rare extended 12” EP from 1983, the studio team take the originals relentless and oftmeandering drums of son Joby and overlay John’s own bass to give it more impact, while spreading a little magic of the Space Echo across Jaki’s refrain for good measure, this is a pure discoid.

Available in Summer 2013.
