The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning. Originally broadcast on 30 October 1993, the Essential Mix features contemporary DJs and music producers of electronic dance music. The show has been presented since its inception by Pete Tong and features an uninterrupted two-hour mix from a different artist each week, overlaid with occasional continuity announcements delivered by Tong. With a broadcast run in excess of 25 years, the Essential Mix is one of the longest-running programmes in the current BBC Radio 1 schedule, and is one of very few Radio 1 shows which is not broadcast live.

Polish duo Catz n Dogz have released two albums and a string of singles to date through Mothership, a sub-label of Claude Vonstroke's Dirtybird Records, and created their own label Pets Recordings in 2010, releasing the likes of Groove Armada and Eats Everything. Their most recent album - 2010's 'Escape From Zoo' - featured collaborations with Jazzanova's Paul Randolph and Claude Vonstroke himself, and was celebrated for its funk-driven basslines and experimental cross-genre approach.

Born in America raised in Mexico, Victor Hugo Ramos was born with rhythm in his veins. At the tender age of 16, he would sneak into clubs in Tijuana to soak in the waves of early inspiration. Driven by the sexy grooves of dance music, Victor decided to buy his first setup and began mixing songs that were making an irresistible impression on him. This forward-thinking mentality would soon become crucial in the development of the Harvard Bass sound. Harvard Bass combines smooth, minimal beats and deep ghetto house grooves with corrosively addicting drum patterns. “Lazer Beams”, an unforgettable collaboration with the legendary Green Velvet, harkens back to the glory days of techno while more recent releases such as, "Plex" Dubfire's Sci-Tec Digital Label, incorporate this influence with other elements that come off as retro yet modern simultaneously. With the release of his debut album "Stay True" on Green Velvets very own Relief Records in 2013, Harvard Bass has extended his sound to others and ensuring that the scene stays fresh with his creative sound. Constant praise pouring in from respected DJs such as Green Velvet, Seth Troxler, Nic Fanciulli, Pete Tong, and Loco Dice salutes the burgeoning musical niche that is taking form, with Harvard Bass at the forefront. Harvard Bass has been cemented as a force to be reckoned within House, Techno music and beyond.

We’re happy to have reached our 100th Mix, and thanks for all of those that have listened in via our Mixcloud or website.

We’re marking the occasion with one of the most talked about sets from any party we’ve ever put on; Skream’s set in the Car Park at Acid Future. Recorded a year ago today, we thought there couldn’t be a better day to release it on other that 8/08...

Acid Future turned out to be one our favourite parties with an amazing crowd, vibe, great decor and a brilliant soundtrack to boot. With Seth at the helm you knew it was going to be bonkers and brilliant all at the same time. Skream’s 4 hour set in the Car Park was one of those sets that people will remember for a long time. It went through all the eras and featured the best acid house from back in the day. Our lighting guy for that room, Pat Murphy, is a connoisseur of acid house and couldn’t believe someone of his (Skream's) age could have such an in depth knowledge of music.

Having hit 100 mixes, we relaunch by making all the future mixes available for direct download and via a Soundcloud account we've just launched, as well as streaming on our Mixcloud channel.
