This mix delves into my absolute favourite global bass productions!  Global Bass is actually quite an eclectic term used to describe a wide range of electronic music that draws influence from various musical cultures, instruments and rhythms from around the world.

This is a kind of ‘essential mix’ encompassing many of the vibes that have heavily influenced the music I make with my collective Hippo Sound System.   I absolutely love the psychedelic atmospheres and effects, and the way textural organic sounds are used to amplify the vibes of the tracks!  In fact the very first track in the mix  (Bwoy De Bhajaan) has massively influenced our Hippo Sound System album….  as after watching him perform at Goulash Disko many years ago it blew my mind as to how these kinds of nature sounds could stimulate the brain and majorly enhance the experience!

So I hope you enjoy it! …. I’ve alway wanted to make a mix like this but could never justify the time over other work until now!  It features a couple of my own tracks/remixes you may recognise and a very first exclusive listen the Gnawa/Techno fusion track ‘Mama Africa’.

Solid Steel in association with Serato (23rd October) In Hour 2 it's a 'DJ Madd Re-Influenced mix' where the Hungarian artist drops a special mix looking back and deconstructing music he loved growing up. He told us;
"I had the idea to make an influences mix for some time but I wanted it to be a bit more special than a collection of tracks I listened to growing up. I came up with the idea to load the tracks into the software I write music in, and treating it as one long project the same way i write music: Adding and removing parts, leaving tracks playing or totally re-writing them. The selection had to be started with one of my earliest memories of music which was Paul Simon’s Graceland album which my mother used to listen to all the time. That definitely turned me onto african influenced music with the reggae and dub influences such as Bob Marley or The Specials soon to follow. As a teenager I was really into oldschool hip-hop and after I found out there is this crazy genre called jungle that uses sped-up hip-hop beats I was instantly hooked. I religiously followed early Bristol jungle and d&b, poking around old trip-hop, and discovering ragga-jungle through Congo Natty, where all these influences from dub / fast breaks and ragga vocals seem to come together. To this day these versions can only be heard in this mix and to keep it special, I think it will remain that way."
