After a 12-year gap since the release of two albums and two Eps, Linda Mirada presents her new album ‘Qué largo es el verano’. Featuring a collaboration with North Satellite, production and mixing by Metro Area’s Darshan Jesrani, contributions from Bart Davenport and Daniel Collás of the Phenomenal Handclap Band.
Linda Mirada’s new album got off to an unforeseen start a few years ago when she proclaimed - “I’m going to record a record in Italian”.  To this day that idea has still not been carried out, but her first record in twelve years has since materialized. It doesn’t feature a single song in Italian, but it breathes the spirit of the early 80s pop in southern Europe with flashes of Italo disco.
The idea of recording an LP was born from a conversation with Daniel Collás that opened an unexpected door. What began as an exchange about musical affinities activated the need to reignite old ideas that had been put aside. The vertigo of composing and recording music gave way to the pleasure of working on songs. Time in the studio, collaborations and stories that grew as they came into contact with melodies were all guided by intuition, fertile disorder and the complicity of those who crossed paths in the process, plus a few coincidences. The result is a sensational collection of songs that moves between intimate hedonism and gentle melancholy. There are echoes of the most sophisticated sounds of the 80s, the candor of early electropop, influences of Mediterranean pop and splashes of disco. All with a fresh look, without indulging in nostalgia or clichés.
‘Qué largo es el verano’ is an album made with joy and care. It channels Mirada’s influences into songs that shine with their own light. These seven tracks – plus a PHB Dub - crystallize a very personal way of understanding music as an everyday space, where the production is not the main focus, but with an intention in each note and in each chosen sound. This album brings Linda Mirada back to the forefront of a little-trodden but necessary territory; that of Balearic pop made with sensitivity and elegance. And the single in Italian is sure to come one of these days.

Berlin-Hamburg duo Session Victim return to the ever-reliable Delusions Of Grandeur imprint with Chapter Two of their Sidequests trilogy, marking yet another high point in their almost twenty year journey through heartfelt, sample-rich music.  Overflowing with analog warmth, sun-drenched textures and irresistible grooves, the release also features a stellar remix from label co-founder and deep house pioneer Jimpster who kicks off the EP.

Here he takes Behind The Glass into spaced out house-not-house territory.  With crisp drum programming, trademark Rhodes, and subtle pads that build over time, his version delivers that late-night sophistication he's known for—steering the downtempo original in a clubbier direction without losing its blissed-out essence.

Up next we have a brand new collaborative effort with long time friend, label mate and fellow sample nerd Nebraska. Make It Happen is a dusty, slo-mo house groove featuring delicate keys, euphoric strings and that unmistakable sense of journey.  It’s just the kind of low-slung epic house they do best—intimate yet club-ready, nostalgic but never retro.

Flipping over, Too Soft To Be Loud, another collaboration with Viken Arman, follows with a jazzy, almost samba-esque rhythm and swirling atmospherics.  Loose percussion, catchy guitar riffs and Rhodes stabs collide with off-kilter dub FX and soft vocal snippets giving the track a laid-back, live-band feel that harks back to their See You When You Get There era.

Hubcap Candy dives deep into funk territory.  Nebraska’s on point boogie bassline drives the track forward as crunchy drums and layers of synths create a dreamlike haze. It’s loopy, moody, and finds Session Victim at their very best.

Closing out the EP we have the original of Behind The Glass, a headsy, beatdown piece that slowly unfolds over an unconventional brass-like bassline and delicate guitar textures, paying homage to the golden age of Trip Hop haziness and it’s pioneer turntable spirit.

Blending crate-digging sensibilities with forward-thinking production, this latest release solidifies Session Victim’s reputation as genre-blurring tastemakers, and their chemistry with Delusions Of Grandeur remains as strong as ever.

DC Promo Tracks: Trip Tease & Alain Vice "Falcon Punch"

Exploited Club warmly welcome in Pleasure Voyage who step up to the plate and do as they do best: casting out a wide musical net, gathering in influences from Breaks, House, Disco, Balearic and Funk whilst pulling in a hefty dose of fun, flair and ecstasy to boot.

'Cuánto Cuesta' is a simmering pot of pure joy. A bubbling bass line has the track on a low boil throughout while luscious, buoyant synths intimately jostle alongside bold but allaying piano chords. Classic breaks snap in the back while a gently acidic lead flexes in and out of focus and the resultant groove sends out a clear and cosy invitation to get loose.

A regular on Johannes Albert's Frank Music's label and Tensnake's True Romance, Claus Casper chips in with his 'No Tengo Dinero' remix - a fortified revision that packs an extra punch with a layered snare, cow bells and an open hat that seasons the groove with a little bite and snap.

Rolling snare fills punctuate the track as Claus creates ramps for sections that showcase his indisputable chops on the keys. The passion and heat of the orignal remains intact as progress tumbles towards a long, spine-tingling breakdown that pops wide open in a manner that will send the floor absolutely nuts.

Cyphon Recordings proudly presents the latest release from Berwick, a Sheffield by Bristol producer and DJ carving out a reputation for razor-sharp electro and forward-thinking club sounds. With a background steeped in underground electronic music, Berwick has steadily built his name through a string of uncompromising releases and energetic live and DJ sets, blending the grit of classic electro with a modern rave-inspired touch. His new EP showcases his most refined work yet—four tracks built for the floor, designed to move bodies and shake systems.
 
Opening with ‘Fall & Melt’, Berwick sets the tone with a punchy, contemporary electro cut. Its driving percussion, crisp groove, and propulsive energy make it a peak-time weapon, balancing raw dancefloor impact with seriously fat production finesse. Next up, ‘Powerflip‘ dives deeper into the shadows. Gnarly synth lines, guttural bass, and clipped vocal hits collide to create a darker, more menacing side of Berwick’s electro vision. With eyeball-rattling low-end, it’s a track that demands a big system to unleash its full force.
 
On ‘Impossible’, Berwick shifts gears into an even faster lane. Elasticated bass and synths bounce around the crisp drum groove, pushing the pace with an adrenaline-fueled rhythm that’s as urgent as it is infectious.   Rounding off the EP, fellow Bristolian Sam Lester takes ‘Powerflip‘ into new territory with a remix that leans towards wonky tech house. Stripping back some of the raw menace of the original, Lester reshapes it with a 4 on the floor kick, layering in hypnotic textures and a slick low-end that makes it a tripped-out weapon for house and techno sets alike.
 
This release cements Berwick’s position as an artist unafraid to push electro into bold and uncompromising spaces, while also opening the door to cross-genre interpretations.

Long-time NuNorthern Soul contributor, B.J. Smith is a man in demand, dividing his time between solo work, playing guitar in Crazy P man James Baron’s popular JIM outfit, collaborating in a variety of well-regarded projects (Smith & Mudd, Bison and White Elephant amongst them) and composing for TV. Due to this impressive list of musical commitments, solo releases have been few and far between of late, with Smith’s most recent NuNorthern Soul release, a stripped back version of his Big Sur single, dropping late 2023.
It's been ever longer since he delivered a volume in his popular and ongoing Dedications To The Greats series, where the singer-songwriter and composer successfully turns his hand to other people’s songs. Since debuting the series on NuNorthern Soul in 2013 via revelatory and inspired covers of tracks by Mos Def and the Pharcyde, Smith has covered cuts by Outkast, Prefab Sprout and Soul II Soul.
On volume four, Smith’s first volume in the series for five years, he delivers a “cover of a cover” – a revolutionary and imaginative interpretation of Billy Swan’s ‘Don’t Be Cruel’, itself a version of a song first made famous by Elvis Presley. It was their mutual love of Swan’s version that brought Smith together with the release’s most prominent guest artist, Joe Harvey-Whyte, whose lilting, bittersweet and deeply emotive pedal steel performances can be heard across the EP.
Smith provides three contrasting takes. The EP is led by the ‘Mother Earth’ version, a slowly unfurling epic in which waves of effects-laden pedal steel and sun-splashed picking acoustic guitars usher in Smith’s eyes-closed vocalisations, settling into a groove reminiscent of his collaborative work with long-time friend and collaborator Paul ‘Mudd’ Murphy that showcases Harvey-Whyte centre stage to joyful effect. As the 14-minute epic progresses, we’re treated to long, languid electric guitar solos, percussion-laden slow-motion builds and hazy, stretched-out organ solos. It’s a breathlessly brilliant concoction that’s a million miles away from either Swan or Presley’s versions.
In contrast, the similarly epic ‘Earth Heart’ version – available in full vocal and instrumental takes – pushes the song front and centre. Following an extended build up, where Tamar Osborn’s gorgeous and fluid flute motifs rub shoulders with languid guitar solos and Harvey-Whyte’s pedal steel, Smith takes to the mic, delivering an emotive performance of the song’s heartfelt lyrics over a hushed, slow-motion groove. The track builds in waves as it progresses, with Smith layering up instrumentation as it rolls towards a fine conclusion.
Completing a superb package is the ‘Root Heart Instrumental’, a Balearic-meets-Americana take built around shuffling drums, toasty bass guitar, extended pedal steel instrumentation, flashes of flute and Smith’s sun-bright acoustic guitar. Loved-up and more than a little saucer-eyed, it’s a bona-fide sunset delight.

Modern Friend are a Montreal, Canada-based duo consisting of Voytek Korab (formerly of My Favorite Robot) and Kosta Megalos (formerly of Flowers and Sea Creatures). The new project dives back into each of their early influences of post-punk and synthwave sounds which were musical movements that heavily influenced their formative years.

Having been greatly involved in the underground electronic music scene for many years, this is their first foray into the type of music that they always wanted to write. “Someone’s Gotta Save Us” is a post-punk electronica number, all-encompassing of the times we are in.

Andy Toth, co-founder and former member of the Detroit Grand Pubahs remixes the track and flips it into an electro stomper. Korab’s smooth vocals get turned into a robotic twitchy funk, the guitars become replaced with acid-tinged synths, and an overall thump is added to the drums to make it ready for the clubs. Pure, aural filth with this remix in the absolute best of ways.

The Andy Toth remix of Modern Friend’s “Someone’s Gotta Save Us” is released October 31st, 2025 on Permaculture.
