Chris Lake - Operator (Ring Ring) Ft. Dances With White Girls

The Smirnoff Sound Collective is global initiative celebrating diversity and inclusivity in electronic music. Along with other members of the collective and key industry mentors, Joseph Ray and Meli were brought together for a creative retreat at Rancho V studio complex Joshua Tree, California. During one of the SSC Retreats. Inspired by the creative collective and their fellow artists, Joe and Meli created the hypnotic 'Inside' - one of many songs created that week - which unfurls from a melodic and delicate house tune into a bass-infused, bellowing track that easily fills a dance floor with its booming power.

Joseph Ray is a member of Grammy award winning trio NERO - 'Inside' is the first in a series of solo releases from Joseph Ray coming this year, that includes a collaborative project with the Haitian band Lakou Mizik.

MELI is a Grammy nominated singer-songwriter and producer, with a burgeoning solo career, whose work has been popping up across multiple genres from hip-hop to EDM.

Two of the most earnest techno acts in the scene, ARTBAT links up with Matador and his RUKUS imprint for their debut collaboration 'Apollo 11' - a direct and out of this world two-tracker named after the first successful moon landing.

The Kiev-based duo and the Irish DJ-producer have handed the title-track over to Mixmag ahead of the record's release on March 15. With its driving rhythmic elements, vigorous pads and lively arpeggiator breakdown, 'Apollo 11' is a tune that has gotten nothing but an ebullient reaction from dancefloors all around the globe.

Between his frequent musical pilgrimages to Haiti and the development of fresh solo material in Venice-based studio, Joseph Ray of NERO has locked into a new, exhilarating and cavernous club sound with his forthcoming two-tracker on Anjunadeep, 'Room 1.5 / Chem-EX'.

Ahead of its release on August 20, Ray has handed over 'Room 1.5' for a premiere. 

"This track was inspired by my days listening to jungle... fuzzy memories from the London nights when I got into dance music," Ray told Mixmag. "Those sounds and atmospheres have never really left me and this is my homage to them."

Exclusive Toh Imago - La Napoule (Nathan Micay's Life In Every Breath Remix)

Berliner by choice and Torontonian by heart Nathan Micay, also known under his Bwana artist moniker under which he released on labels such as AUS Music or Fort Romeau's Cin Cin, took on remix duties for Toh Imago's track La Napoule, which was originally released on Toh's album Nord Noir last year. Just as the remix title suggests Nathan's approach breathes new life into the original as he delivers a less playful but straight to the point livable version that does not lose the original's character but emphasizes the lead-synth melody. In typical Micay-manner a more techno-esque bassline is added and gives the take a darker note, maybe a little Berghain/ Panorama Bar vibe, which symbolically stands for a more raw and unfinished approach at places, where the electronic music culture still has time and space to unfold its magic and sprinkle the same to its audience just like Nathan Micay does with every beat, with every breath of his remix to both, namely the scene and the Toh Imago's original.

Toh Imago's EP Nord Noir Remixes will be released on InFiné on March 6th, 2020.

As he peaks out from under the duvet, he notices shadows shift in unfamiliar ways. He immediately pulls the covers back over his face and whips his arm back in from it’s dangled position at the side of the bed. As the clock turns, each second is marked by a tick that fills the room with sound. The emptiness of the house is marked by creaks of settling floorboards and gurgling pipes, each made in inconsistent and unexpected ways. The air in his blanket sanctuary begins to feel heavy, dense from the sweated bullets, evaporated with panicked breath as the covers cling to his skin. He curls up and pulls tightly at the bed sheets. Just as he begins to feel safe, there’s three hard knocks on the door.

Delve into madness with a track by Canadian ghetto-house connoisseur Garneau. Part of a compilation by London-based label Shubzin, out on a pay-what-can basis. All profits are in aid of Youth Urban Arts Foundation, a charity that gives disadvantaged young people an opportunity to express themselves through music and art. Foot stomping bangers and a fantastic cause, what’s not to love? The track ‘CLM’ sees Garneau trying his hand at breakbeat techno, and is littered with gnarled kicks, earth-shattering bass and enough breaks to make even the most committed Junglist slow their roll.

The ship blasts from the grasp of gravity like a slingshot fired with squinted eyes, leaving an ever diminishing planet to the rear. The unknown blackness of space replacing visions of metallic mountain ranges and endless seas of non-newtonian matter. A beacon of otherworldly frequencies and signals draws them across the universe. They’re yet to find what they’re looking for, but the consequences of failure are too grave to imagine. As they approach the centre of another solar system, the ship’s front visor fills with a deep blood red colour and searingly bright light, only partially filtered by the basic human technology implemented in its construction. “It’s beautiful” the ship’s captain says, “but it isn’t home”. 

Nastia’s showcase for emerging Eastern European talent NECHTO brings us a fantastic release from Ukraine’s very own Voin Oruwu. An affiliate of Kyiv’s legendary party CXEMA, Voin Oruwu has made some gigantic waves over the last seven years, and his first release on NECHTO is no exception to the rule. Inspired by everything from the conflict in Crimea to Kyiv’s famously idiosyncratic rave scene, the release contains five tracks of culturally perceptive electronic music that’s sure to make you take notice. Track ‘Sunray’ is seven minutes of high-octane techno, stripped to the bare essentials; pounding kick drums and pads oozing with futurist optimism.
