Poker Flat's Forward To The Past anthology returns in its 3rd iteration, as lean and mean as it ever was and precision-engineered to make you jack, dream and all things in between. The winning formula remains the same: task a selection of hotshot veteran and up-and-coming producers with recapturing the style and mood of early club music, paying homage to the golden years between 1985 and 1992 when Chicago House and Acid, New York House and Detroit Techno took the world and its dancefloors by storm. The result is a collection of new and exclusive tracks as addictive as the stone cold classics that influenced them - a tribute and, at the same time, the cutting edge of contemporary music production.

Quell casts clouds of vocals and a repeated snippet of soul over a sinuous, undulating bassline.

Few labels release as many high quality club cuts as Hive Audio. The Swiss imprint never misses and always has a fresh roster of names churning out the goods. This time out they look to Mirco Caruso for two tight new tech cuts that will set any floor alight. They mark his debut on the label and hopefully the start of a fine relationship. The first is Next Guest, a robust and upright house groove with bobbling bass, tin pot precision and aloof, distant vocals bleeding into the mix. It’s a cool, breezy cut that makes you sway your hips. Then comes the more driven Let Me Go, which is a tense, edge of your seat ride through the cosmos with twinkling keys, tough synths and shooting pads all forming a bed off which dreamy, whispered vocals leap. It’s infectious, attention grabbing stuff that will make sure dancers sweat from start to finish. These are two crisp tracks that really get under your skin and want to make you move. PAWSA presents the second release on his Solid Grooves imprint with three broody house tracks including Tiger Stripes on remixes duties.

One of London’s most popular event series, 2015 has seen Solid Grooves evolve into a label with co-founders Michael Bibi and PAWSA at the helm. With his debut release on Leftwing & Kody’s Lost Records reaching no. 6 in Beatport’s Tech House charts, PAWSA’s entrance into the house and techno scene is envious to say the least, particularly as he followed up with appearances on top tier labels such as Green Velvet’s Relief Records and Nicole Moudaber’s MOOD Records.

Up first, ‘Event Horizon’ unleashes a purring low-end, heady hats and syncopated snares for a menacing, dancefloor focused number geared for the afterhours. Undulating kicks and a groovy bassline then join infectious vocal samples in ‘Separation’, before ‘The Shapeshifter’ delves into deeper territories with subterranean notes, reverbed percussion and a playful melody.
Known for his releases on Drumcode and Desolat, Swedish producer Tiger Stripes ties things together with a rolling remix of ‘Event Horizon’ featuring vocal moans, mesmerising atmospherics and ominous bursts of synths.

One could describe Mirco Caruso’s previous career with just three words: “haste makes waste”.  The club-musician with Italian roots’ approach to music is never contrived - nor does he care for exclusive hype or shallow bandwagoning. Mirco Caruso’s career is embossed by a gravitas that has consistently and continuously led him to the music that reflects his passion the most.
The steep rise that started with his first tech house release in 2014 - and was followed by broad international support and gigs around the world - suddenly came to a halt in 2020 when Covid hit.
Yet, against all odds, this marks the beginning of Caruso’s musical and artistic transition. After struggling with finding new inspiration and creativity amidst a world turned upside down, passion finally was reignited after visiting a concert that would inspire a profound change. A change that has ultimately resulted in his newly formed moniker «MICA» that represents an equally newly formed, inherently melodic and dreamy signature sound. One thing, though, remains unchanged: MICA’s impeccable flair for deeply touching productions and his incredible skill set in the studio. Surely, it won’t be long, until his music yet again finds its way back into the rotations of the biggest names in the industry.
