2012’s “Now and Forever” was a dialogue between a father and his son. As the title of the new album suggests, the bloodline is continued on “Forever and a Day”, with a dialogue between a son and his father.

The cover art depicts a sculpture made by Syndrome’s Mathieu Vandekerckhove’s father. The sculpture was made around the time Vandekerckhove was born, and it was prominently on display in the family’s living room.
It literally was a center piece in the young and adolescent life of Vandekerckhove, with him growing up in constant proximity of the sculpture. Now in his adult life, the sculpture becomes the center piece of his musical development.

The bronze sculpture not only resonates with Vandekerckhove’s past, present, and future; it also perfectly connects with the musical story he tries to convey: the work of art has no limbs, but only a torso and a head with no eyes. Despite it being a motionless entity, it emanates a lot of force. However, that force is caged in the prison of its own body. It knows no freedom, there’s a constant notion of absence, a dark and brooding void; sorrow, bereavement and grief.

It’s adamantly clear that to Vandekerckhove the image is much more than a decorative ornament; it depicts his coming of age — both musically, but also on a deeply personal level, confirming the journey we’re invited to partake in come September will be a spiritually profound one.

After the sensual downbeat fantasy “State of Mind”, Ah Cama-Sotz releases a full dark ambient album that’s widely devoid of rhythm: A meticulously crafted hour of music that may well serve as an exorcism. Electronic sounds and synthetic strings paint a sonorous background, cryptic samples and angelic choirs conjure up the enigmatic. For the dark-minded, this promises highly cinematic entertainment, purification in eleven movements.

The eviction of a demon, the resurrection of the possessed is a mythical subject of almost all cultures. References to religious fanaticism have been the source of inspiration for many of Ah Cama-Sotz’s dark ambient works, of which the Murder Themes series is an ongoing example. Nevertheless this is quite different from the 2013-released 2nd part, as “Exorcise” only makes rather subtle use of industrial sounds, and the topics dealt with are very ambiguous; this style of dark ambient is composed in the classical sense, and as such relates to a tradition of electronic avant-garde music that predates the industrial genre.

Soundtrack-like in the best sense, “Exorcise” leads the listener from the unsettling bleakness of the opener “Absterge” through the lighter tones of “Burnside” and understated rhythmic structures of “Diaspore” or “Cicatrix” to the discordant organ sounds of “Epsomite”; en route we are exposed to a continuous contrast of the intangible and the mundane.
Whatever you make of it, you can’t deny the overwhelming effect of “Exorcise”, a masterful depiction of a dim place where Ah Cama-Sotz obviously operates in a class of his own.

The Future Of Fish

Misantronics is an ambient/experimental project from Antwerp (Belgium).  

Misantronics started as a harsh.rhythmic noise project in 2009.  Soon after, the self-founded label Amex Nori would release several CDRs and compilations featuring the harsh and brutal sounds of an angry citizen.  But things started to change.  When the project got picked up by the Englist Dark Meadow Recordings, Misantronics had already been experimenting with live improvisation and pre recorded sounds, resulting into an atmospheric yet rhythmic drone sounds.  
After DMR was defunct Misantronics stopped experimenting and recording for a while.  Unhappy and frustrated with the direction the project was going all instruments got packed and put in a dark corner of the living room.  Some lost tracks appeared on several compilations and an overview compilation was released as a free download on Amex Nori's Bandcamp page.
In september that same year Misantronics was a visitor at the Incubate Festival in Tilburg.  Armed with simple recording equipment he made field recordings during the concerts, in the hotel, in the beautiful town and everywhere he could find some interesting sounds.  These sounds were later processed, editted and produced in the home studio. The result was Ail-Eni, released by the Dutch label 'Het Donkse Oog' and quickly followed by a full-cd, named Atjaras and a tour in Germany.  
From that day on, the old harsh Misantronics was dead and buried.  However, the rhythmic part remains.  It is now safe to say the Misantronics is a Dark Ambient project using percussion and all kinds of other experiments to enhance the atmosphere.  But don't be surprised to head some techno, drum & bass or even dub tunes.  
So maybe it's best to say that Misantronics is a dark, experimental music project
