When skies are grey

When the band found an old cassette tape beneath a loose floorboard they didn't expect it to turn into "Stone Tape". Full of haunting noise and swirling guitars, Laxá sampled and reversed the found sounds that crackled from their stereo to create the track you're about to hear. The energy that seemed to be in the air was deeply emotional and traumatic, seeming to recall past events that were "recorded" onto the very fabric of the building they were in.

The band quickly set up their gear to capture the moment. Immediately the temperature of the room dropped significantly, giving the band and the song an urgency as they sought to release and replay these captive "recordings" from the stone tape.

Jez Stephen is a composer and multi-instrumentalist whose work is defined by the deliberate separation of style and space. To maintain the integrity of each creative mindspace, he operates through a series of distinct projects, each acting as a dedicated vessel for a specific sonic world:

A SON OF MANY FATHERS: Crushing Doom and Drone Metal explorations.

SIEGFRIED JÜNGER: Industrial ambient and machine-noise artifacts.

THE DARK MESSIAHS: Experimental dark jazz and noir-industrial atmospheres.

JEREMIAS LANGSÄMMER: Modern classical and deliberate chamber compositions.

LAXÁ: Expansive post-rock and cinematic landscapes.

THESE GUITARS SAY SORRY: Narrative-driven singer-songwriter material.

For Stephen, these boundaries are essential. They provide the psychological isolation required to move from the abrasive textures of industrial decay or the weight of low-frequency monolithic riffs to the delicate intimacy of a folk song without compromise.
