This is a sad song about doing anything completely obliterated, because everybody drowned and the tide was actually going away from the shore that day, and there was a big announcement on the radio but we didn't listen because we thought it was all a joke and nobody was gonna get harmed, and uh, we got outta control with the drugs and two people died. It was a lesson to learn, and now we're never gonna do that again.

Gut Punch

Ryan Shivdasani, guitar. Jack Irving Redford, bass. Misha asked Jack for two words. Jack said "Spiral Stairwell". Misha immediately said "Got it. Hit record." Off we went:

I went to a party. Everybody was getting wild. I couldn't resist myself: I can hardly do that as you know before from my songs. I said "Yes" to those mushrooms. And then I tripped and fell, I tripped and fell, I tripped and fell down the spiral stairwell. I tripped and fell down the spiral stairwell. I tripped and fell, I tripped and fell down the stairwell. And then I fuckin' realized that I'm completely out.

There's nothing like this. There's nothing like this: I'm trippin' on mushrooms and I lost conscious of my head. I hit my head real hard on that drywall when I was flying down those motherfucking steps.

"What time it is? I wanna know!" said the rabbit as he glanced upon my dead body what it appeared like to him and then to me. "What time is it?" said the rabbit as he glanced upon my dead body as it appeared like to him and to me.

Oh no... after I have fallen down the spiral well I'm almost dead but I found inside of me the strength to get up, and I realized that I was in a completely different world:

I was quickly approached by two cards. Each one was wearing a number on its head. It said "10 10". One was red and it had hearts on it. The other one was black, and it had hearts with tails on it. They asked me, "Who are you?"

I said "I don't know... I think I'm Alice."

"Alice!!! Who's Alice?"

"I'm Alice.... or I think I'm Alice, because I had a similar experience. Wait, no.... I'm not Alice. No. You two: get outta here. I don't wanna go to the Queen. I don't wanna get to the King. I know how this goes. I need to find the Smoking Slug. Yeah, yeah. You two get outta here unless you can get me to the Smoking Slug right away. Yep. Get me to the Smokin' Slug. You don't know what a smokin' slug is? Fine. Leave me alone: I'm gonna get to the smoking slug, myself."

And so I went, and it was a short walk (it appeared to be) but I tripped over a stone and I hit my head again, and it seemed like it was no big deal, but then I was falling down another spiral stairwell. I was falling down another spiral stairwell. I was falling down another spiral stairwell. And I was.... double inception trippin':

I'm double inception tripping here. And time is going one eighth the time that it normally goes. And I'm going really fast. And my hands are racing so quickly that I can't understand what's going on. And everybody else is moving really slowly but I'm going really quickly and the hands inside my head are going real faster because your mind goes faster than your body does, and so I'm standing around and all these things are, like, barely crawling and I'm going, "What the fuck is going on? I remember now: I took mushrooms and I then I fell and I hit my head, and as I fell down a stairwell, and then I frickin' fell down another stairwell, and then I hit my head again, and now I'm here.... I need to find the smoking slug!"

And so I went, one foot after another foot. I was going so fast people were looking around at me, like, saying like, "No running at the pool!" And I wasn't running: I was just going so slow to make sure that they don't yell at me any more, and then I finally found the slug in the forest, because I went (it looked like) from one continent to another in a matter of seconds, like Flash.

And then the slug said, "Do you want to smoke this pipe?"

And I said, "Yes of course I do! I don't know what to do because I don't remember what happened in the story, but of course I do! I wanna smoke the pipe so I can go back to the..."

And the slug said, "Noooo... you must eat this mushroom to go back to your planet."

Spiral Stairwell

Ahhhh!

What is that? A new kind of jellyfish that we just have discovered at the bottom of the ocean?

Ahhhh!

What is that? Is it the jellyfish that we've been looking for so long? It has been eluding us for years, but we finally have found it.

Ahhh!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

I remember like it was yesterday: it was 1967 and we were doing some deep sea diving. And I thought, "What the fuck is that? It's glowing so bright. It has these freakin' weird legs. Is it a spaceship? I think I have smoked too much weed before I dived down in here. I think I took too many mushrooms and took too much acid."

I tried going to Arizona and to Nevada and looking up in the sky to find the same jellyfish or the starfish that I've seen. The starfish that I've seen: I thought it was definitely a UFO from somewhere out there and it would be here, in the Area 51, or maybe at the bottom of the ocean, or simply in my mind.

I took too many drugs over the years: I tried to get it back. I took so many drugs, I didn't understand what is going on in my head anymore. I tried to take more. I tried to get that fish back in my vision, but I couldn't.

And now it's back, thanks to this Italian manufacturer that provided us with this scuba gear. This bathyscaphe, it really dived down really much so much deeper than before, in 1967.

This time I was sober. This time I was much older and wiser. I knew that it wasn't in my head: I knew that it actually freakin' existed. I dived in the bathyscaphe made by the Italian manufacturer, and guess what is it that I saw? It was the jellyfish that looked like a starfish and starship dropping out of the sky like I'd seen in 1967 when I was doing all those drugs: but now it was alive in front of me. Again. And now I'm excited.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Jellyfish

Most music is composed, then rehearsed, then carefully recorded. Our music is free improvisation. In other words: we record and compose the song simultaneously while we play the song for the first time, with no planning, editing, or overdubs.

If you are scuba diving with friends and see a jellyfish swim by, you might think it looks silly. But when you are alone looking closely at a jellyfish, you might realize its depth and beauty: a microcosm of the Universe. Mishka Bobishka is the jellyfish of music.
