As we approach spring, the seasonal turn brings with it an uplifting release set to be essential listening for all the eardrums still recovering from the dance-floor damage committed in the darker months. This release hails from Seba and Paradox, no strangers to the d&amp;b circuit, as Critical Music outputs two stunning tracks prepping us for the warm sun-shining days to soon come. Courtesy of Kirsty Hawkshaw, ‘The Light’s beautiful vocals soothe away those frostbitten blues from former months; they swathe around blissful old-school piano keys, breaking through layers and rising over irresistibly smooth drum patterns. A deep bass-line unexpectedly makes an appearance, underlining the evocative summertime goodness - with this aurally euphoric track you can almost taste the blue skies. Seba and Paradox dig deep underground and unleash the dirt on the flip with a jungle-tech tour de force in the shape of ‘As If’. An ominous intro erupts into coarse drum patterns, enveloped by dirty bass that’s just downright mean. A straight-up dance-floor box-ticker, this is a track of volcanic proportions. Beware the explosion!

Regular sparring partners in clubs the world over, DRS’ trademark measured Mancuian flow rides perfectly atop on Intalex’s soulful selection with his baritone delivery sitting sweetly and filling out the dynamic range of the rolling selections which reportedly feature, in some form, material from DRS’ forthcoming second album, Mid Mic Crisis.

Basically it’s a glorious and specifically tailored 62 minute mixtape showcase of DRS’ potency as a host, an emcee and a vocalist. But it comes mixed by Intalex which more than hints at the level of quality it contains... two of Manchester's finest in sterling form.

Metalheadz Podcast 56 - Seba

Sebastian Weingartshofer’s path into music would’ve been almost inconceivable 10 years ago. In 2010 he created his own YouTube channel under the name Skankandbass as a way of sharing his favourite drum & bass tunes, and within a few uploads he’d started to grow his own online following making full use of the constantly developing digital sphere and the opportunities it provides.

Weingartshofer carried on seeking out the best forthcoming D&B, and once his channel properly took off he used his online profile to start throwing his own parties. Nowadays, the rising talent runs his own artist roster looking after artists like Dimension and 1991, and he’s also started playing regularly with us at FABRICLIVE.

Most recently he joined us in Farringdon back in March, where he set the mood in Room One ahead of 1991 with a peppering of up-front rollers with more classic 170BPM cuts. With his next appearance with us coming up in just over a week alongside the likes of Netsky and Friction, we agreed with Weingartshofer to unlock the first 90 minutes of his set to give an idea of what we should expect when he returns.

"To celebrate summer and at same time my first EP release, I decided to give away a "secret weapon"  private edit of mine. The original track is from a French singer, Veronique Sanson, pretty famous in France in the 80s / 90s for her pop song. But in the late 70's, from a collaboration with producer Bernard Saint Paul, she came out with this fantastic slow disco funk track that very few people know about (I think). Myself, I have heard the original track by chance 1 or 2 years ago, fell in love with it and knew right away I wanted to do a serious re-work of it. Besides new arrangement, and new drums, I re-build a totally new 2 minutes intro for it to shine when Veronique's voice comes in. Special mixing trick and mastering by my friend Benjamin L'hotelier. Here we go."
