It Is What It Is

The details behind this one are in Josh's excellent write up below, but I wanted to say thanks again to Josh and Ken for taking the time to contribute to this one.

This song began with Stephen and his friend and bandmate, Quanah Stewart who also sings this version, and who wrote the lyrics. They were in a band together for about 7 years in the early 2000s. When the band broke up, they went many years without playing together. Until, in 2018 Stephen started his TexMex shaman project and this was one of the first songs he wrote.  Quanah had moved to Austin in the meantime but on a visit back to Dallas, Stephen asked him to come over and add the vocal track you hear on the song.  
 
Fast toward to 2024 and Stephen wanted to remix this along with a few other older tunes. He asked his good friends and teammates Ken and Josh if they’d like to help, and of course, they were super enthusiastic.  This is what he had to say about the finished product. "Their parts blew me away.  Beyond what I expected and it made it a whole new song.  Very grateful to them both for their time and talent." As are Ken and Josh very grateful to Stephen for sharing his awesome rocker with us.  

The title comes from trying to think of the stupidest song title Stephen could come up with, on a bet. And it’s close. 

  Of course, Stephen did the honors of mixing and producing it. Ken and Josh had a lot of fun bringing this song back to life with him, whose creativity and skill are unparalleled. We all hope you (and Quanah) enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed creating it.

Invaders

This is the original instrumental version of the Hip-Hop track I did before I decided to add lyrics and collaborated with the talented Ian Greaves (aka @IPG1). After composing this instrumental track, Ian was kind enough to let me use his lyrics/vocals from his song ‘Modern Times’.

Most of the music is performed by me, with the exception of the sampled vocalization in the middle bridge and ending, and a few sound effects here & there. The beginning starts off normal enough, but the middle section takes a bit of a left turn before I 'go off' on the synth in the second half. I kind of enjoyed working the sliders on the live synth performance.   ;)

Modern Times - the digital age (instrumental)

This song is the brainchild of Artur, who composed it on his guitar perfectly for collaboration, and presented it to us with his vision for the entire sound. Ken went first, of course, adding his signature rocking beat to the song. Josh went next, as soon as Ken had laid down the drums, adding his four string fretless bass sound to fill out the rhythm section. 
  Tez came along soon after, adding some foundational ornamentation with his guitar. JJ jumped in right after Tez, and laid in the majestic organ, riffing electric piano, and subtle synth you hear throughout. Finally, Stephen laid his guitar in there, too, which can be heard as a fiery melodic line running throughout. At Artur's suggestion, he also added some amazing, trippy sitar in a couple of spots, too.
  Once all the tracks were laid down, Stephen came through with his always skillful mix. This makes almost an album worth of material that The Eclectic Collective has created from Artur's ideas. We're always excited when he drops a new one in our laps. He wrote this on a sweet rainy day in the Polish summer. 
  We hope you enjoy listening to this as much as we enjoyed creating it.
