In the eighties DJ Yellow pushed forward French hip hop and he also had big influence on what French house music is today. Currently, Alain Ho aka DJ Yellow is one of the electronic music artists who established himself as one of the forward thinking artists in general. With his label Yellow Productions (founded 1993 with his mate Bob Sinclar) he released artists like Salome De Bahia, Dimitri From Paris, Joe Clausell, Bang Bang and Kid Loco. With his second imprint Poussez Music (founded in 2003) he created an outlet for his own sounds. Thus here he started his projects Alienation, Intermission and Paule with which he experimented on different fields of electronic music. On the new album DJ Yellow fuses characteristics of deep, funky and tech-house by using tender basses and well dosed percussion lines, paired with some real e-bass parts one feels remembered to the album "Paradise" from Bob Sinclar (which Alain assisted to). But these little elements can only be seen as little quotes to the roots. All in all the album, which was produced together with Portuguese producer Tiago Fragateiro (aka Hi-Tech²), provides a clever mixture of deep and funkyness. Using dark and promising spoken words from time to time the record takes a mystic narrative mindset at the very beginning. What follows is an emulsion of warm arrangements with a strong and well balanced base that aims directly to the dancefloor. To get the first impression of the current "Mindz Kontrol Ultra-Sound" you can just listen to the track "She Is Gone".

"We always wished to have it (at least we thought since the beginning of the year), but never got the possibility to do it: Our very own Plastic City Radio Show. So we recorded an imagined radio show hosted by Kriss Dior. And who could be better for this job as the man with the right radio show experience: Kriss Dior aka Bassface Sascha?" As Bassface Sascha he is one of the german Drum and Bass pioneers and started his first own radio show “Reload” on Evosonic Radio in 1997. From 1999 to 2003 Sascha had his second radio show called “Outbreak “ on hr/XXL till the radio station was closed and transformed to You.FM.
            
        Kriss Dior, who is one of the early Plastic City artists, made an outstanding DJ mix for this release. Starting with soft ambient and breakbeat tunes, he lifts his mix up to the next level when the four-to-the-floor rhythm arrives in his mix. Then he leads us through all kinds of atmospheres that are possible in TechHouse and House. Using the different kinds of kicks and bass in a very intense and interesting order as well as handling with chords of different rhythmic styles shows the experience of 17 years working as a DJ. The mix breathes, it pulsates between strain and relaxation. Bassface Sascha, who is also known from his pseudonyms  Blue Mauritio, Ghostwriter, Mental Bombin, Raiders Of The Lost Art, Richterscale, B.O.R.G. or Smoke Starr, knows the right moments to set accents to hold the suspense, keeping you on the move. After 77 minutes, 20 seconds and 23 tracks later, Kriss Dior brings his Plastic City Radio Show, filled with a few jingles of course, to an end with some surely surprising downbeat sounds and we listened to the huge DJ skills of a man, who experienced and formed a decade of electronic music in more than one genre. On Plastic City the founder of Smokin’ Drum Recordings who also appeared several times as guest VJ on MTV and Viva, fuses his unique sound together with strong TechHouse grooves and relaxed house sounds. And now there is nothing more to say but enjoy the mix, listen to the seamless changing of melodies and let the manyfold rhythms lead you in the right mood to have a special electronic music experience.
            
        We just like to add that while working on this CD it has resulted that we actually produce our own “Plastic City Radio Show”.  On 13th of august, 22 pm (Central European Time), we started the weekly "Plastic City Radio Show" on Radio Ibiza Sonica, presented by <a href="http://www.contact-booking.de" target="_blank">Contact Booking</a> and <a href="http://www.tracktracker.com" target="_blank">TrackTracker</a>. Every week Gorge and Greg Silver will play the deepest and hottest Tech-House tunes on the island. UK born but now US based, John Graham’s new album is set to reach these shores showcasing slick, contemporary indie-rock with electronic touches and a heap of swagger. With influences including the Stone roses, Kasabian, The Cure, Depeche mode and more, it’s an album full of ideas which is primed to make an impact. The album is something of a departure for Graham, whose previous work under the name Quivver has seen him gaining countless plaudits producing house and techno music. 

However, ‘Cold Sun’ and lead single ‘Roll the Dice’ prove that there are multiple strings to this particular bow,  as showcased by this superb video for the single  – not suitable for those with a fear of heights, it blends off kilter performance footage with a montage of adrenaline pumping, high risk stunts. It’s a truly compelling watch married to a fantastic musical groove.

The ‘Cold Sun’ album has been in the making for many years, being written in snatched time between full time work as a house and techno DJ and producer. It’s release is the culmination of an ambition John Graham has had for many years – to create a collection of songs that don’t fit neatly into a specific genre, and demonstrate just how versatile his writing can be.

His new music does a fantastic job of proving that thanks to a brazen and assured indie rock approach that drips with attitude. It’s a long way from the jungle and house specialist who started out in the 1990s and is well established in that environment. Over the years since, John Graham (as Quivver) has picked up myriad honours and career highs. The quality of his work can be vouched for by over 45,000 online followers, as well as Virgin and Warner Brothers who have both come close to signing him in the past.

Those deals never came to pass due to circumstances beyond John Graham’s control, and it speaks volumes that such a departure in terms of genre has done nothing to dull the quality of his music.

Single ‘Roll the Dice’ is out June 1st, to be followed on June 29th by the ‘Cold Sun’ album, both through Distinctive Records.
