Not Like That is a music and digital art collective in East London. We put out bright, poppy and colourful electronic music by producers from all over the Internet. We also collaborate with animators and designers who work in the surreal and colourful digital art space to make everything look pretty. We then throw fun parties in cool venues to celebrate it all.
 
On Saturday 5th March we will host our third party, this time in partnership with @SmoothieTunes. On the night we’ll have DJ sets spinning the best in future beats, hip hop, internet pop and bass.

Smoothie Tunes is an independent music blog and events platform based out of Brooklyn, NY. They find underrepresented artists making great music all over the world and give them the coverage they deserve. Their shows feature dazzling visuals working in sync with the artists to create an involved live experience. “We seek to bring discoveries from the Internet into real life, and are very excited for our first international collaboration”.
 
Making the space look OTHER-WORLDLY, we’ll project bright colourful visuals made by animators and designers from the Not Like That collective.

"The instrumental for "A Heat That Melts The Thoughts In Your Head" was in parts for such a long time. I love constructing certain guidelines and rules with songs, and this I wanted to be a really tight call-and-response structure within all the melodies throughout. A lot of the drums were entire loops of live drums I was reshuffling about. The title of the track, much like a lot of my songs is a quote from a certain American author. But that is a secret who exactly..

After my single on Activia Benz came out, me and Ducky got chatting online and we started collaborating on a load of different work. I designed the artwork for her releases with B.YRSLF and Nest HQ, and more recently a compilation with US based art collective Net Elite. She's really inspiring and super productive. I genuinely love her productions and releases so it's easy to create something based on the audio. She shot this vocal for "A Heat...." over a half-finished beat almost immediately, and I agonised over how to finish the track around it. The lyrics work perfectly with the concept of the EP, the whole song sounds like friction in a relationship slowly building. Itchy synths and skittering hihats with a bittersweet performance from Ducky.

The track's artwork is one of seven images I produced as a personification for each track that follows my design and artistic style pretty closely, but realised in photographic form."
