It is Luke’s infectious energy coupled with his ability to move a dance floor that has seen him emerge as one of the dominant players in Melbourne’s music scene. Luke’s diverse musical range and ability to read a crowd has seen him perform in a variety of environments, like the main stage at a festival to an intimate live guitar performance and everything in between.

Luke Vecchio is a constantly evolving artist, allowing his music to naturally unfold alongside his own life path, taking inspiration from all avenues of music. Luke’s intimate knowledge of music and dedication to the craft, has seen his production develop at a prodigious rate. His influences range far and wide across the musical spectrum and this is on full display with his mixes, gigs and catalog of tracks to date.

LKR Volume 15 hears Luke Vecchio take us on an excursion through a Trip Hop fantasy with downbeat delights, glamorous grooves and soul sweeping tunes. Including two unreleased tracks by himself that he’s whipped up specially for this mix. This is a guest mix providing yet another essential mix to the series, it’s a pleasure to finally feature the downtempo sonic stylings of Mr. Luke Vecchio.

Phil Smart has been a fixture on the Australian electronic music scene since the early warehouse rave days in Sydney. He has played lots of records to lots of people in lots of clubs, bars, warehouses, fields, deserts, basements, carparks and bunkers over the years. He’s renowned for playing fresh sounds and forward thinking electronic music, and has been involved in running some of the most legendary parties and events in Sydney and beyond. Phil has even played all around the world and alongside many premium international talents, at many festivals, clubs, bars and venues.

Phil has one of the most extensive DJ resume’s in the history of Australian DJ’s. With too many affiliations to even mention in this write up. Phil has left his mark and influence all over the scene since the late 80’s. From holding long standing residencies and playing at many iconic dance events that have paved the way for Australian electronic music, to releasing music on diverse labels such as Motorik, Junkbeats and Future Classic, to running an eclectic history of club nights with focuses on specific genres, tempos and eras of music, to co-founding Burning Seed - Australia’s first and largest regional Burning Man, to DJing and curating music for Yoga and sound healing events, to running record labels and so much more. Phil is the DJ’s DJ of choice.

This exquisite 50 minute all vinyl mix is a brief glimpse into Phil Smarts deep vinyl collection, featuring trip hop tracks that are all pre-2003. If you listen closely, you can hear the crackle in the recording. Phil has searched his crates to uncover old and lost vinyls with rare tripped out sounds, swinging you right back to that 90s flavour. Let this mix take you on an excursion through beats with class, bass with style, melody with soul and a unique energy that only wax provides. It is an honour to feature Phil Smart on the Low-Key Reservations mix series, hopefully the first of many volumes from this DJ wonder.

Low-Key Reservations ː Vol 16 - PHIL SMART | Trip Hop

More exquisite heat from one of the most consistent producers out there. Mihai Popoviciu has been racking up an enviable discography in the past few years, as releases on Highgrade, Hudd Trax, Bondage Music and Popcorn Records testify. 

This, his latest outing on home-from-home Poker Flat, suggests we may yet have the best to come. 'Time' is a low-slung slice of electronic funk, featuring a dirty bass line and lazy, growling synth skirmishes. The feeling is tech-y, underground and analog - a perfect vibe for the Romanian's killer grooves. 

'Stay' drops a gear and cruises into even deeper territory. The melodies entwine to build a lush deep house groove, punctuated by a wonky lead and punchy, insistent drums. Popoviciu manages to hold plenty back, before unleashing a fierce drop.

'Paper Box' maintains the stripped-down sound design, leaving plenty of space for Popoviciu's signature synth squiggles, stabs and fragments of melody. The result is a slick, grooving piece of futurist dance music. 

Beatport customers also get an exclusive additional track- the highly charged, deeply narcotic 'Turn'. Dropped at the right moment, this is going to destroy a few late night parties like nothing else.

Somersault's shine is hard to look pass. It can create quite the glare, sometimes we need to squint to see him properly. Maybe the squinting is why he wears glasses? Hmmm.

In the lead up to his "Euphotic" EP Release, Somersault has developed a podcast purely placing his current sound and direction into our thoughts and immediate scenery. The new EP has gained early support from Eelke Kleijn, Cid Inc, Max Graham and Armin Van Buuren praising his tight groove and the beautifully eclectic remixes. The remixes include a wild melodic number by Scotland's Ariose, a deep and grounding interpretation by our boy Matt Dwellers and minimalistic groove train by Dan Baartz. We haven't released our first official previews of this EP yet so hit Pre-Order for hints and to snatch the first copies upon release!

Love this podcast and being introduced to a new artist by one of our friends ZigMon who heads up Bassic Records and Rabbits Eat Lettuce Festival. Introducing Somersault who we'll definitely be listening out for from now on. Somersault’s music is uncompromising. Heavily influenced by the shuffling rhythms of dark UK garage, atmospheric techno and deep melodic house, Somersault likes to straddle the line between the delirious highs and murky lows, a sound that’s brought his unique sets to outdoor festivals and underground clubs.

The young producer has come a long way from working as a funk guitarist to producing music played on international festival stages by Jon Convex and Karotte. While his initial entry into electronic music was with electronica duo This Mess, Somersault came into being while travelling through Europe and immersing himself in the rich club culture in 2014. He is however, no newcomer to dance music having played at major Australian festivals Subsonic, Rabbits Eat Lettuce, Dragon Dreaming, and Bohemian Beatfreaks as well as major Australian club nights S.A.S.H, Elsewhere, Capulet, Something Else, Blueprint, Foxlife and Cakes supporting PleasureKraft, Pepperpot, Simon Caldwell, Made In Paris, Politics of Dancing and Robbie Lowe.

In September 2016 Somersault's eagerly awaited Stampede EP was released on Upon Access, Sydney’s groundbreaking new label curated by Techno heavyweight Made In Paris. The thunderous title track was one of the highlights of Karotte’s set at the 2016 Hafen 49 closing party in Mannheim, Germany while the sensuous B-side, It’s Erotic was selected as the opening track for veteran Roger Sanchez’s Release Yourself radio show. The EP caused a stir in promo pools worldwide gaining support from Oliver Schories, Karrotte, Laurent Garnier, Marco Carola, Riva Starr, Sasse, Uone, Joe T Vannelli, Steve Ward, Sossa, Joris Voorn, Horse Meat Disco and Marc Poppcke.

In early 2016 Somersault released his most ambitious work, a four-track concept EP ‘Ultramarine’ on Build It Records. The EP instantly entered the Beatport top 100 Deep House Chart and received over 40,000 plays on soundcloud within the first week of release. ‘Ultramarine’ covers much deeper, darker and groovier territory than the producer’s previous work.

2015 saw the release of three widely acclaimed EPs on US imprints Build It and Particles (Proton). His release ‘Devotion/Respect’ gained over 15,000 plays on Soundcloud after only two days. ‘Space Is Big’, his most successful release from the Particles EP, has since been remixed by progressive house luminaries Alex O’Rion and Sebastian Weikum.

Somersault has a busy year ahead with upcoming EPs on Australia’s Open Records, Subsonic Music, Bassic Records and Upon Access, due for release in early 2017.
