From the left or the right side? Straight ahead or upside down? No matter how you look at it - but it seems to be about time that all the remixes for Jazzanova that have been done over the last few years need to be bundled up in a nice big shiny package.

After the first collection of remixes from 2003 (Remixed, JCR040-2) now's the turn for Upside Down, some of dance music finest key figures' interpretations of selected Jazzanova tunes from the last eight years. And be assured, the line-up is as massive as the Berlin's quintet worldwide reputation. From fellow Berliner Henrik Schwarz, Ye:Solar and Âme to Atjazz and Mr. Scruff from the UK, Motor City Drum Ensemble from 
Cologne, Glasgow's Midnight Mauraders and Soldiers Of House from Pretoria (South Africa) this is a top notch international heavy weight affair.

Originally released with the album Of All The Things from 2008, Little Bird features the exceptional tonsils of José James. A singer who has worked with luminaries like Moodyman and Flying Lotus and is capable of bridging traditional jazz vocals with modern sounding club music. Alex Barck's rework of the song does not only do justice to the original but turns into a sure shot dancefloor smash with lots of peaks and emphasis. You will see the ladies go bezerk over this one, trust us!

Sonar Kollektiv’s inclination towards dubbed out pop/dance music is definitely no secret (see Fat Freddy’s Drop or Eva Be). But with this brand new 7inch the Berlin label hits the nail on the head.Chicago-born Jeremy Sole is one of the program selectors at renowed LA radio station KCRW and hosts a weekly party in Santa Monica where he blends Afrobeat, Funk, Reggae, Latin, Brazilian and everything else under the sun. “If I'm playing a Dub tune, it has a similar rhythm to Cumbia so it forms a bridge from Jamaica to Colombia. Then maybe mix into a salsa track, followed by a salsa remix with a dancehall pattern that translates into certain Afrobeat rhythms. It's about finding similarities and using songs to connect cultures and build momentum.” His show on KCRW is built on that same foundation.

His remix for I Human doesn’t really sound like a remix. It rather sounds like an original recording by Sole himself. Adding trumpet player Todd Simon and reworking it to the bone he transforms the song into a jaunty, summery dub track. So we already have a hot contender for the summer hit of 2012. And a tune that probably will get lots of airplay on one of our favourite radio station in the world, KCRW.

Alex Barck is known for participating at as many parties as possible simultanously. Now he invites for the very first time in his career to his own and personal bash. To the island La Reunion in the Indian Ocean to be exact. That’s where he settled with his entire family for a whole year since last summer to complete his probably most ambitious work ever: His debut solo album. The fist guest to be received is Pete Josef from Bristol (one half of The White Lamp), who wrote the lyrics for “Re-Set” and lends his voice to it naturally. A voice that suits perfectly Barcks twisted but always highly accessible productions. As a DJ who lives for the dancefloor Barck comes up with a track that make your legs shake and - in the second part - your hands raise. To assign the talents of newcomer Hannes Fischer to do a remix is a clever move. The latest wunderkind of the Berlin techno/house scene has an impressive sensitiveness for nuances like only very few have nowadays. In his rework he squeezes the essence out of “Re- Set” and fills it rich in content into a flacon that spreads somehow the odor of lavender. Until the release of the album “Reunion” there will be further three 12″ coming out of the holiday residence Barck. Stay tuned! In the meantime there still will be DJing in selected locations, work for the project Prommer & Barck (a second album is in the making), A&R managing for Sonar Kollektiv and of course active support of Jazzanova.
