It is our honor and pleasure to welcome CLR boss Chris Liebing to Global Vibe Radio, with an exclusive one-hour mix of powerful techno goodness. 

Chris Liebing’s friendly demeanour and beaming smile make him enormously recognisable in the modern electronic music landscape, but it’s the years of passionate dedication to his craft as an artist that have made him synonymous with Techno.

A pioneer of the European contribution to the story of Techno, the Giessen (Germany) born producer and DJ has been active the world over since the 1990s and, at every stage of his career, has helped create a platform for other artists, not to mention the scene in general to flourish. Whether via his long-running CLR imprint, affiliated podcast and club nights, his current radio show AM/FM or his 2020 Alone Together streams and DJs & Beers ‘talk show’, Liebing the curator extends way beyond his DJ sets.

Since 2018’s ‘Burn Slow’ LP on Mute, Liebing’s musical direction has grown to encompass some of his earliest influences. Taking in nascent 80’s electronica, psychedelic melodies and an unmistaken seam of alternative music of the past 40 years, ‘Burn Slow’ and remixes for Depeche Mode and Goldfrapp heralded a new chapter for Liebing that continues in 2021 with the arrival of his ‘Another Day’ LP.

Although now incorporating a wider range of sounds into his work and performances, Liebing has no interest in leaving darkened rooms and dancefloors behind and, with the return of CLR in 2021, we can look forward to more of his unmistakable presence pushing Techno forward for years to come.

This week´s #AMFM is the fourth and last hour of my set that I played on August the 12th at Sunny Beach, a Bulgarian beach on the Black Sea… Well the actual venue is called Cacao Beach, quite a beautiful place with an amazing sunrise in the morning. It had been a pretty intense, fun and long day before we headed out to Bulgaria, cause it was on the same day of the great Swiss Streetparade in Zürich where I played on a float with @dice. A fun day, but also a little demanding with regard to sleep and activity. The plan was to play 5h at Cacao Beach, from 2-7 am, so into the sunrise. Shortly after we got to the venue, the promoter told us, that the government is regularly checking the sound levels of all places on the beach and that I had to play at around 90 dB for the most part. For those of you not familiar with levels, in a club it is relatively normal to have about 100-120 dB. So when I started a little delayed (this is why the whole set is only about 4h and 40min long) I tried to make the best out of it and luckily the crowd was very understanding and we ended up having a real good night/morning. Well you can judge yourself by checking out the set. Now that you have all the four parts you could even put them together into a playlist and listen to the whole set with seamless transitions. One major reason for me to upload the set to #AMFM was, that those who were there should be able to have the opportunity to listen again… and loud… enjoy..

Let´s travel back in time again. I hope you like these excursions to the past. September 1st 2014. Monday, Ibiza. Amnesia. Cocoon. 

That should tell you basically all you need to know. It is nice to use these times to travel back a little and remember the amazing summers we had, especially on the white isle of Ibiza. Cocoon always played a big part of that, the first time I played at Amnesia was in 1999, which was the first (pre) season for Cocoon hosted by Sven Väth, who essentially paved the way for techno on the island, which was unheard of really before that time. Those gigs at Amnesia were always very special for me, I loved the club and the DJ booth, the light jockey, who never spoke one word of English and me no Spanish, but we were always super happy to see each other and work together. I hope one day I will be able to return to that DJ booth and experience all that again. This set is a little longer than 3 hours, today you get the third and last hour, and if you wanna have the full set without me talking, you might wanna check my Mixcloud Select channel for more.
