Leftfield 2: Electric Boogaloo

JULY 2021

We’re incredibly proud to announce the details of the first release on our label - an 8-track debut album from our resident Adam Pits. Inspired by nature and written during the first lockdown, the album shows off Adam’s classical cello background as well as a broad range of electronic styles you’ll already be familiar with. In his own words:

“2020 became a year of turning misfortunes into new opportunities. The feelings of clubbing neglect and social deprivation were prominent and as a result I found myself locked away in the studio with nothing better to do than to write the music that I wished I was hearing on a large sound system in a room full of sweaty rave-goers. I was lucky enough to be surrounded by friends who were able to drag me out of the studio and get outside for some real TLC from nature. After copious amounts of elderflower picking and mushroom foraging I found myself at peace with the idea that maybe the studio wasn't my only safe place. This ended up being the catalyst for many of the ideas in the album, and in turn, helped me realise the similarities between the beauty of repetition in both music and nature. 
A Recurring Nature has come out as a genuine representation of where I’m at in my musical journey. Whilst seeking to express the aspects of music that most resonated with me, I wanted to also test myself against the elements where I felt least comfortable.”

The LP will come in both digital and 2x12” vinyl formats, with the latter featuring full art from Patch and mastering from the renowned Analogcut studio. Pressed at Record Industry and distributed by One Eye Witness. Out 16th July.

Last month, Pete Tong’s Future Stars for 2021 Andy Bowden and Ken Petalcorin, better known as @tibasko released ‘The One’ on Another Rhythm / Three Six Zero Recordings. Evoking powerful euphoria, ‘The One’ demonstrated their effortlessly indulgent production quality. The air was fresh and clean; it cleared her nostrils as she inhaled deeply. Out here in the wilderness, she couldn't have felt further away from the city, away from the smog of the concrete jungle and the stress of the morning commute. It was a miracle what nature could do for the mind and the body; the green landscape and untouched woodlands brought with it a tranquility that was unmatched. If she could have her way, she'd never leave this place.

On Rotation have steadily built a reputation throughout the Leeds underground for their amazing parties that hone in on both local talent, as well as welcoming some of the most exciting international names around. After several years of events, it was only natural that the next step would be to add a label arm, and who better to kick things off than their resident, good pal and a producer who's been pushing out the good stuff at a relentless rate: Adam Pits.

Marking his debut album, following EPs for Holding Hands, Seven Hills, X-Kalay and more, 'A Recurring Nature' takes inspiration from a year immersed in nature whilst clubs were a distant memory. Straddling introspective and extroverted moods, the eight tracks across the release show off Adam's versatility as a producer; he's just as at ease crafting spaced out downtempo cuts as he is straight up club bangers.

A new signee to @infinite-machine, @bonebrokk’s 'The Astral Catalyst' EP marks his first official release for the Athens-based producer outside of his @trialanderrorsound imprint. Influenced by late capitalism and sci-fi dystopias, across two productions Bonebrokk deftly showcases his ‘ExoPunk’ sound; a retrofuturist mix of broken beats from the continuum blended with meticulous, future-facing sound design.

Needing no introduction, NYC-based Baltra rose with the lo-fi house scene and has become one of the most innovative producers to come out of it, constantly pushing for a fresh sound with use of organic vocals and cross-genre experimentation. Returning for a full record on Shall Not Fade for the first time since the hazy sounds of Rendezvous EP in 2019, Baltra’s 'Dreaming Of A Disco' EP focuses on impeccable instrumentals and infectious melodies.

The title track carries subtle manipulated vocalisations at the core of the melody which has a touch of romance and, later, just a hint of disco strings adding an 80s shimmer that explodes to the forefront in jangling guitar riffs.

Adam Pit’s Grounded EP sees the space•lab favourite exploring deeper, techno-inspired terrains. Opening track, ‘Schtoopbloop’ traces mystical synth lines and expansive vocals, underpinned by a satisfyingly substantial, driving baseline. Track two, ‘Tiptoe’, enters Pits’ iconic breaksy palette - equal parts dreamy and slick, this is the wipeout soundtrack for the next century. On the flipside, Konduku dips his toe into remix duties, offering up a shimmering, spiralling rework of the original. Finally, closing up the release, title track ‘Grounded’ growls into view, rising from sub-heavy foundations into dubby, treacle-speed sounds.

Coymix Ltd., a new Estonian/Finnish label from Steffan Todorović (one of the minds behind Gestalt records) and Timo Rotonen (founder at Echocentric Records) has launched its maiden journey with a release from South African producer Terrence Pearce, aka Biodive. Here he rolls out a complex but direct 4-track journey of synth-buoyant and euphoric blissful mania.

Most of these tracks were originally planned for release on Gestalt Records, but after a bit of self-deliberation, Steffan figured it’d be best to start a brand new label to house the project. Having already been close with Timo, the two often helping each other with their respective labels, Steffan passed him the tracks and the two decided it’d be a good idea to launch Coymix Ltd. together. It’s no secret that the type of cosmic, pumping deep house that Biodive has delivered is trending right now, and for good reason. The music is of superb quality and emotion, and you’d be missing out not to grab this for the bag (or stick) before it sells out.

Plane of the Ecliptic leads the release with its big festival stage sound, first capturing attention with beautiful melancholic chords before introducing a pulsing subaqueous bassline that slinks over an otherwise calming ambient soundscape. The energy is serene but powerful, and I can already imagine massive crowds collectively losing their minds to this at the grand summer festival stages. The tune is never too busy, and Biodive does a great job building tension and releasing energy in an arrangement that really works to guide the listener through different states of feeling.After more than a year in the works, the project is set to release on both vinyl and digital formats on July 1, 2020. London-based imprint X-Kalay add to their healthy catalogue with an instalment from Holding Hands affiliate, Adam Pits. Marking his debut on the label, following a string of releases for Coastal Haze and Wex this year, he brings yet more styles to the table, adding proggy house influences and driving synths into the mix alongside signature breaks and techno. On the flip, illusive Magicwire artist Bliss Inc. puts his own spin on title track 'Piston Pump, twisting it into a euphoric peak time cut.
