La Fleur is a DJ in the ascendant. Now a resident DJ at Watergate in Berlin (and with a brand new EP for their label ready to drop – more on that in a minute!) she has balanced her craft and her electronic music production with precision and flair: all of this is the result of hard work and a constant stream of quality gigs across the world. For the uninitiated, La Fleur took her first forays into the studio in 2008, with her remix of David Ekenbäck’s "Nairu" on Trunkfunk Records but it was her solo debut, the Flowerhead EP, for her own Power Plant label, which really rocketed her into charts and record boxes worldwide. Then in early 2011 came ‘Flowerhead Revisited’, the remix project hand-picked to launch the in-house imprint of Whatpeopleplay. La Fleur remixes then followed for Adana Twins, Magit Cacoon and more.

And now, after La Fleur’s recruitment to Watergate’s booking-agency, we proudly present La Fleur’s first record on our in-house label. "Nightflow" is the eponymous track of her EP - a potential classic, which is seriously deep, but also funky and not a little surreal. No less a figure than Detroit legend Kenny Larkin delivered the remix to it. His 15-minute "drama mix" unfolds a stunning atmosphere, which is spiked with exotic sound sources and his own distinctive sonic palette. "Tide" is a first-class DJ-Tool. "

To unearth a forgotten gem and bring it to a whole new audience is an unbeatable feeling. Label boss Gregor Tresher has been keeping his very own jewel under wraps for many weeks, but the time has come to unveil his beloved anthemic set closer. 

Chymera's 'Shadowdancer' original saw a release back in 2007 and was yet another exemplary display of the Irish producer's enviable talent for creating beautiful and uplifting soundtracks. Its combination of finesse and power generated perfect dancefloor emotions and it was these that has lead to it never leaving the Break New Soil boss's record box.

"The original is one of those perfect end of night tracks that has just never left my playlists. I was always getting people coming to the booth to ask what it was…" says Gregor. 

It was this response that lead to the new release. Yes, 'new' release. Chymera has revisited his original production, mixed and re-recorded the brand new 2014 version that we bring you today. Not only that, but Gregor also presents his very own rework.

"I've been working on the remix for quite some time. For me, the original is already perfect so I tried to take my mix in a different direction whilst maintaining the beautiful vibe of the original."

► ABOUT THE EP :

AZZUR is back with a second release and reveals their first various artists EP including 3 tracks from Melokolektiv, Konvex & the Shadow and their new core artist Nandu. Konvex & the Shadow presents "Lost", a percussive song composed of tense melodic lines and tribal rhythms which make this track a real tool for dancefloor dj sets. Melokolektiv shows his aptitude to do melodic but dancefloor track with "Emerge" and its massive lead bass in the breakdown supplied by a dub house drum ensemble. As for him, Nandu is collaborating with Katy Blue on "Long" and provides an elegant electronica balade made of complex and live recording elements.

Reversion (noun): the final, often mind-melting, product of a deft studio act in which an original recording’s elements are rephrased in a unique new way.

You know this. We know this. Monaberry knows this. They proved it last month with Super Flu’s agenda-setting ‘Re:Dings’ EP and they’ve done it again with this stunning reconstruction collection of andhim’s 2015 Monaberry smash ‘Rollercoaster’.

The evidence is clear from the off as ‘Mr Bass’ gets knighted to Sir Bass with two beautifully contrasting remixes. First up is groove-chowing Leeds lothario wAFF who fires up the energy to hip-shaking tech-level and gradually re-introduces the original’s cosmic elements as the groove charges into the vanishing point. La Fleur, meanwhile, adds a much more ominous fog-horn style bass texture that groans moodily before the majestic melody cuts through a Garnier-level arrangement twist. Stunning.

‘Cloys’ also enjoys two superb reworks: Re.You provides a touching twist by paying close attention and respect to the original’s swampy, underwater harmony with additional percussion, a richer weight and a more restrained sense of emotion. Ever one for contrast, Eagles & Butterflies flips the original into a brighter narrative direction with a timeless undulating groove and dizzying cannon of humanised textures. A true yin yang reversion scenario; one for opening, one for elevating.

It’s down to Zurich’s Animal Trainer to sign off this beautiful reversion experience with a bulbously rotund basslicked take on ‘Rollercoaster’. Upping the tempo and stripped back the layers, the duo create more space for the woozy vocal soul snippets and a whole new melodic layer.

Mind-melting, deft and rephrased with innovative articulation, andhim’s originals have been paid the utmost respect from five of this decade’s most exciting new house talents. Monaberry knows this, we know this… Now you do too.

Indira Paganotto returns with her third Pooledmusic EP, featuring a pair of remixes from label boss Ian Pooley. Having made her debut in 2012 aged just 19, Indira has spent the intervening years honing her sound and exploring new approaches to music.

Currently based in Madrid, Paganotto’s father was a DJ in Goa, where she spent a significant portion of her upbringing. Having grown up with her father’s collection of trance, acid & psychedelic rock records, Paganotto’s eclectic musical education has informed her music’s individuality. Her 2014 solo EP ‘Time Out Man’ blended these inspirations into a pair of evocative house grooves.

This development continues with Kashmir & Savannah, both of which find the 24-year-old producer in confident form. Ian Pooley provides a pair of his own trademark dancefloor-focused dubs to complete a package that confirms Paganotto as a new talent in the ascendancy.
