Following on from the 2017 LP Paradygm Shift by Robert Hood released on Dekmantel Records, the Detroit legend returns to the imprint to deliver the final installment in a trilogy of EP releases that initially began back in February 2016. Now based in Alabama, the Detroit-techno producer is returning to his roots. Embracing the trademark, minimal, funk techno sounds that defined his earlier career, Paradygm Shift Vol. 3 is classic Hood, operating in new, and uncharted ways.

The EP is an extension on the concept as outlayed by Hood during the project’s conceptual stage: ‘‘The idea behind Paradygm Shift is similar to a shift in our focus. We can become so complacent; we are so comfortable with our surroundings, I think this is the time for electronic music to find a new mindset.’’ Kicking off off with ‘Red Machine’, where again parallels can be drawn between the days of Minimal Nation, and Internal Empire – the sound is sparse and brutalistic, representing a challenged future. A progressive melody syncopates along the tracks percussive, backbone, arching its way into the track’s eventual demise. On the B-side, ‘Transform’ provides a composition of stripped, down electro, while taking in the 606 style, and adding additional, textural depth. It’s a track full of subtle melody, and high-ranging claps, that make ‘Transform’ the perfect transitional tool, and standalone floor-filler at the same time.

‘Red Machine’ and ‘Transform’ reflect Hood’s modern take on challenging techno. Meditative in their sequenced repetition, the tracks draw you in with their audacious, and memorizing sequences. It’s contemporary techno, albeit techno that reflects Hood’s style and nature. Pulsating, electrifying, with dark undertones, and very much of that Detroit flavour.

Lobster returns to it's scorched earth roots with a dark, gritty blend of techno-based power traxx from New York staple Heidi Sabertooth.

Tracks scraped from the surface of the NY underground. Proper hardware jams with a raw, scorched edge!

Eyes Are Watching combines punched kicks, squelched synths and pitched-down grunting mosh vox. The mood then lightens a touch for the hypnotic, dusty hardware workout Non Such. Jackin' Chitown vibes peppered with plucked & arp'd synths.

On the flip Makin Cutz is pure can-recorded techno. Overdrive-central in a caged industrial basement. Detuned acid & raw af hammering drum programming. Then for the finishing move, Weeding Through Distortion adds some off-club IDM-tinged sonic flavour to proceedings. Echoes of early Warp (think elements of Autechre live in Wakefield in the early 90's) shot through with some hard US noise processing. A tough, melodic gem.

BAR03 is BAR Records’ very first spring release.
With 2 tracks by The Hague’s JEANS and 2 more by Italian duo Younger Than Me this one is dedicated to the ravers. 
First track by Jeans is ‘Grand Theft Mind Explorer’, a race car journey full of various breaks and melodies into the 4th dimension. The second track ’Nohzdyve’ sounds like a spring tune on a hardcore clubnight. The peaktime beat slowly fades into a sweet and nicely confusing end. 
Younger Than Me’s ‘BaRave’ has some classic UK rave elements; the signature drums are accompanied by a happy end of the day melody. This track asks for a perfect sunset.
‘Dirty Sex’ is the different one, a vocal track for darkrooms. Contains the beautiful voice of Justine.

Premiere: Ara-u & Radioactive Man 'Failure to Communicate'

Dub versions have been released from the ‘Dance Paradox’ universe, two curious entities on offshoot missions launched from the mothership. The ‘Major Space Dub’ rework of ‘Man Out Of Time’ lands on hard and dry territory, the already raspy hits ricocheting into punishing rusty slaps. With beautiful warmth added from vinyl, the ‘Next Door Ultra Dub’ of ‘Dead Space’ fills in those after hours in limbo with a refrain that becomes more powerful when heard at the back.
